We relocated our collections to a new storage facility in 2025. Organizing the audiovisual collections is part of our ongoing goal to optimize collections and ensure that they are safe, searchable, discoverable, and optimized for long-term preservation. What sourcing strategies have worked well for this role in the past? Types of candidates attracted, Bank's Corporate Heritage is seeking an innovative, collaborative, service-oriented audiovisual technician to manage audiovisual materials in the collections. The role is projected for a fixed term of two years. About the
Heritage Department:
Bank's Corporate Heritage is responsible for conducting historical research, storytelling and content development; art and archival asset management; digital properties; and artifact management. The team consists of experienced historians, archivists, and art consultants that use our history and art to connect with customers and colleagues. The Archives collections include extensive audiovisual holdings from legacy and numerous predecessor companies. These holdings comprise various digital and analogue formats, including audiocassettes, VHS, Betamax, reel-to-reel, magnetic tape, CDs, DVDs, and other legacy formats. The collection covers approximately 1150 linear feet of shelving. The Archives is not open to the public. About thePosition:
Reporting to the Senior Archivist, the technician will be responsible for developing, implementing & executing strategies for surveying and inventorying audiovisual collections, and creating digitization and preservation strategies.Core Duties:
- Survey and inventory backlog of unprocessed audiovisual materials.
- Review and describe unidentified media as needed.
- Standardize and integrate metadata into a uniform system. Ensure that all item records remain accurate and discoverable.
- Identify collection items at highest risk for deterioration and advise on preservation and/or remediation.
- Collaborate with team members to develop digitization priorities and strategy.
- Develop strategies and workflows for ongoing digitization and preservation of audiovisual materials.
- Physically reorganize audiovisual materials within storage facility.
- Coordinate with third-party vendor to manage and execute digitization projects.
- Document processes and practices for future use.
- Other duties may also be assigned.
Education and Experience:
Required:
Bachelor's degree and experience and education from a related field of study. One year of experience handling and operating analog and digital audiovisual materials and equipment (e.g. reel to reel, cassettes, CDs, etc.) in an archival context; knowledge of standard and preferred digital file formats for access and preservation.Preferred:
Either an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS or equivalent degree. Two or more years of experience handling and operating analog and digital audiovisual materials and tools.Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of best practices and standards in audiovisual archives management and digitization.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex and exacting work.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, as a team member, and across organizational boundaries.
- Flexibility to be organized, productive and effective in a dynamic environment, involved with a variety of simultaneous projects.
- High level of proficiency using PC-based applications (Windows, word processing, spreadsheets) and other computer applications (email, Internet, Integrated Library Systems); high level computer competency kept up to date through continuous learning.
- Proven ability to develop, implement and manage short- and long-term projects.
