Job Description

Autism Support Specialist
  • Enhanced Royersford, PA 19355 $28
  • $30 an hour
  • Part-time, Full-time $28
  • $30 an hour
  • Part-time, Full-time Autism Support Specialist (Enhanced) | Evenings & Weekends | Royersford, PA | $28
  • 30/hour About This Role The young individual you'd be supporting is 17, active, and a strong sensory seeker.
He needs movement-based input throughout the day to stay regulated, including deep pressure, vestibular, and compression activities. He communicates primarily through an iPad-based AAC device, and growing his use of it is one of the main goals of this role. He thrives with structure, predictable routines, and staff who can think a few steps ahead. The people who do well with him can match his energy while staying calm and consistent, read sensory and behavioral cues, and de-escalate without escalating themselves. This individual does display aggressive behaviors that may be directed at staff or family. Understanding that behavior is communication is key for this role. If you are not comfortable working with individuals who have aggressive behaviors, this role will not be a good fit, but we may have other individuals on caseload who would work well with you. If you come from autism support, behavioral health, ABA, or special education, this role will feel familiar. The Schedule We are looking to cover weekday evenings after school and weekends, which adds up to around 30 hours per week. For the right person with full availability, this could be a single full-time position. We're also open to splitting the schedule across a team, so if your availability doesn't match for full time, please still apply. Whatever your availability looks like, we'll build it into a recurring weekly schedule. What You'll Actually Do Help him expand his use of his AAC device throughout the day Provide sensory input throughout the shift to meet his baseline, including walks, swinging, the trampoline, and other deep pressure, vestibular, and compression activities Support him through mealtimes with the close monitoring and pacing prompts he needs to eat safely Implement behavioral strategies consistently and in partnership with his family, his school team, and Flourish supervisors Keep him safely engaged at home and, when appropriate, in the community Be a reliable, repeating presence in his week so his parents can work and his routines can hold This is a 1:1 role, primarily home-based with community outings as appropriate. Family will be present for sessions
  • you will have support during shifts.
What Makes This a Great Fit For You You're comfortable with hands-on, physically active support You bring a calm, regulated presence to hard moments and don't take behavior personally You're consistent and reliable, and you understand why predictability matters so much for someone like the person you'd be supporting You want to help someone build real expressive capacity through AAC, not just manage behavior You are comfortable working with someone who has aggressive behaviors and you understand behavior as communication You come from a behavioral, educational, or psychology background, or you've built equivalent skill through certifications like NADD or RBT How We Work at Flourish We're a small, close-knit team and we work hard to make sure nobody feels like they're figuring things out alone. Supervisors and teammates are reachable, weekly paid case consult calls give space to collaborate and problem-solve, and we build in real oversight because we think that makes everyone better at this work. We're also deeply person-centered, and we mean that in practice, not just on paper. The people we support shape how we work. Nothing about us without us. About Flourish Community Services Flourish was founded by an occupational therapist with a simple belief: that the people receiving support should have a real voice in how that support works. We call that "nothing about us without us," and it shows up in how we hire, how we supervise, and how we show up every day. Because we actually live by that, our team includes people with lived experience as community-dwelling neurodivergent adults, including a Peer Mentor who brings that perspective directly into our work. We provide individualized, community-based support to people with autism and intellectual disabilities across Chester, Montgomery, Lancaster, and Delaware Counties. We believe all people deserve opportunities to flourish. Requirements (Enhanced Level Role) This is an enhanced-credentialed position. One of the following is required: Bachelor's degree or higher in Psychology, Education, Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, Gerontology, or Therapeutic Recreation NADD certification (Clinical, Dual Diagnosis, or DSP) RBT certification (Registered Behavior Technician)
