Position:
The Wellness Center Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator is a student employee of the Wellness Center who promotes awareness and education on balanced lifestyle choices to St. Olaf College students through content design for toilet talks, posters, and other print materials. They also serve the role of a Peer Educator. The Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator holds office hours and receives all the training Peer Educators do. The Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator works closely with the Associate Director to identify student needs, coordinate ideas and suggestions, and assemble informational materials to support the St. Olaf College community in matters concerning all nine areas of wellness. The Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator collaborates with the Associate Director, offices on campus, and other student organizations to create promotional materials that are most relevant to the St. Olaf student body. In general, the Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator works approximately five-six hours a week for the Wellness Center. These five hours typically include the following: Office Hours
  • Work in the Wellness Center office for two one-hour office shifts a week and pick up shifts as needed. Weekly Wellness Center Staff Meeting
  • Attend and contribute to the mandatory weekly staff meeting with all Peer Educators on Thursdays from 11am-12:30pm. Content Creation
  • Develop, design, and edit poster content on a variety of topics that represent the Wellness Center. Check-In Meetings
  • Meet weekly with the Associate Director for Wellness and Health Promotions to review content. Bonding
  • Attend mandatory team bonding events 3-4 times a semester Transferable Skills Leadership Verbal and Written Communication Mentorship Time Management Human Relations/Interpersonal Skills Creativity Collaboration Program/Curriculum Development Flexibility Organization Create positive team relationships.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This has many important roles and responsibilities within the Wellness Center. The following describe the most common position responsibilities: Community Education
  • The Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator oversees the content creation and design of physical/print Wellness Center educational and marketing materials like toilet talks, posters, and brochures. Peer Coaching
  • The Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator provides one-on-one support to help students who have questions or need guidance while at St.
Olaf, typically during office hours. These topics can include (but are not limited to) homesickness, roommates, concerns about friends, coming out, consent, and general health and well-being questions. Training occurs throughout the year to help improve the PE's skills and ability to help and support students. Professional Development
  • In order to effectively do the job, Peer Educators are given ample training to ensure they feel confident and equipped to be a resource and mentor on campus.
This includes weekly Professional Development throughout the academic year. PEs are paid for all training. It is expected that PEs attend all training, including:

  • This position serves as a mentor and teacher to the campus community. As such, the Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator is expected to abide by all College policies and make healthy and informed decisions. Administrative
  • The Promotion and Outreach Peer Educator submits weekly reports and peer support reports as part of their role. In addition, assists the Wellness Center with any duties or tasks related to effective office management. Other Responsibilities
  • Throughout the year, other projects or duties for the Wellness Center may be available.
Examples of previous projects include helping to promote the PAW Program and creating stickers.
Qualifications:
(Education/Experience/Skills) At least one semester of experience as a Wellness Center Peer Educator or equivalent experience is required. Knowledge of design software (ie. photoshop, inDesign). Willingness to continually develop knowledge related to all areas of wellness. Desire to work on a team and independently at times. Present with genuine sensitivity and concern for others as individuals, as well as a personal and professional commitment that goes beyond outlined responsibilities. Good academic and disciplinary standing with the college. Preference will be given to applicants who will be on campus for both the fall and spring semesters (this does not include Interim).
