Job Description
Baker Ben The Baker LLC White Bear Lake, MN Job Details Part-time $25 an hour 2 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Employee discount Qualifications Bakery Food production Recipe adherence Maintaining an organized workspace Food service workstation cleanliness Moving Attention to detail Cargo van operation Full Job Description About Ben The Baker LLC We are a specialty pie bakery in White Bear Lake that I started back in 2017 (check it out at www.
BenTheBaker.com). I used to be a professional MMA fighter with the fight name Ben the Baker, and eventually I started a pie bakery by the same name as a part time hobby. The bakery is attached to my house in White Bear Lake (I remodeled my garage into a licensed bakery and put in an eight-car parking lot in the front yard). In 2021 I quit my job teaching martial arts and fighting to go full time with the bakery. I hired a full time baker to handle pie production in 2024 so I could focus on developing new recipes and growing the business, and hired another baker this year to help with pie production and customer service. We plan to keep growing and move into a larger building 2-3 years from now as we increase sales of our high-end pies, mini pies, and ice cream. Most pies are frozen and come in either "Take & Bake" or "Thaw & Serve," but we also make fresh pies for preorder every weekend. About my approach to hiring/managing You may have noticed that most assistant baker/production positions are in the $13-$18/hour range, but that this position is $25/hour. I want the best possible person for this position, and if you are motivated to work hard then I want to reward you for your work. My previous employer treated me well and gave me opportunities for more responsibility/income over time and I want to give the same opportunities to my employees. I have very high standards for work ethic and attention to detail. That means this job won't be a great fit for everyone, but if you enjoy working hard and taking pride in your work it could be a great opportunity. We can teach you the recipes over several months, but you need to already have the discipline to stay on task throughout the day, keep a fast work pace, and have excellent attention to detail. As you perfect the recipes and standards, you will have more and more independence in the bakery. If you look forward to a career where you spend all day making the best pies around, this is the job for you! Shift/Pay Info The shifts will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 8am-6:30pm, minus 30-minute lunch break, for 20 hours/week. We also need help with our food tent we do at Marketfest in White Bear Lake for 7 Thursdays in a row from June 18th to July 30th. That would be from 3:30pm until 10:30pm on those Thursdays. So on those weeks it will be about 27 hours/week total. $25 per hour, which is a bit over $26,000/year, plus tips. You get to keep all tips on Mondays/Tuesdays while you work the register, and you'll split tips on Thursdays at Marketest Paid via direct deposit weekly Will not have to work on major holidays such as Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day or Memorial Day. We do not offer health insurance and we do not plan to in the future. That way we can pay more per hour and you can choose to buy insurance on your own through the exchange or a spouse's job, etc. So you need to make sure that won't be a problem for your particular situation before applying. What you will be doing Most of your time will be spent assisting with pie production. My head baker will teach you some of the simpler recipes at first for making pie crusts, pie fillings, whipped cream, etc, as well as labeling and packaging pies. After you master the basic recipes you will begin to learn more advanced pie and ice cream recipes. You will run the register and interact with customers that stop in, which means you get to keep any tips! Cleaning/maintaining bakery facility and equipment. Going on weekly grocery runs to Restaurant Depot and other grocery stores (can use my van) As the company grows you will have opportunities for increased responsibility/independence/income. What I need from you #1 is integrity. I need someone I can trust to eventually work unsupervised and in the same building where my family lives. #2 is work ethic. I need a high energy person who enjoys working hard and being productive. If you don't enjoy working at a fast pace, you will not enjoy this job. #3 is attention to detail. This is important for safety while operating machinery (floor mixer, dough sheeter, oven, etc). You will need to read and follow recipes exactly and have high quality, consistent results. Ability to be on your feet all day Ability to lift 50 lbs to counter height (moving bags of flour, lifting large mixer bowls onto work tables, etc) and to regularly lift sheet pans of product at or above shoulder level Ability to keep work area clean and organized as you work Ability to drive a van with a trailer hitched onto it for when we setup/takedown our Marketfest booth in June/July. Be fun to be around! For the sake of my customers, my employees, and me. We are looking for someone who has worked at a bakery or in a bakery department for at least 5 years with the same company. It is too big of a risk for us to hire someone whose resume has a list of job lengths that are 6 months, 1 year, 2 years long etc. We treat our employees well and are looking for someone who wants to stay and grow with us for years to come. When we move into a larger bakery location in few years, you would have the option to increase to full time if you'd like or stay part time if that works best for you.
