BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for assessing, developing, implementing and monitoring behavior support programs for clients that the Interdisciplinary Team has determined in need of behavior modification. Responsible for training and certifying employees on the facility approved behavior management curriculum. Receives consultation from the Behaviorist Consultant in regards to maladaptive behaviors.CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Ensure the accurate and timely, implementation, and completion of Behavior Support Plans [BSP], Psychiatric Support Plans [PSP] and submission of all related documentation. 2. Ensure that Behavior Assessments are completed on assigned clients and report the results as scheduled prior to Interdisciplinary Team Meetings. 3. Organize and manage behavior documentation books on all units, keeping programs and data updated and current. 4. Help monitor BSPs & PSPs and make modifications when necessary in a timely manner. 5. Assist in training staff to accurately complete and submit Behavior Reports. 6. Assist in analyzing data from Behavior Reports to determine behavioral status of residents. 7. Participate in the facility's Behavior Review Committee, and compile information for the meetings as directed by the Behavior Specialist. 8. Assist with preparing sleep and behavior data for the Medical Review Committee and actively participate in the scheduled meetings with the Psychiatrist. 9. Assist with the training of staff on the BSPs and PSPs. 10. Develops and maintains a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel, administration, the Interdisciplinary Team and consultants. 11. Keeps abreast of and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, client rights, facility policy and procedures as well as current professional standards in behavior management, and makes recommendations on changes in standards and practice guidelines to the Administrator. 12. Participates in Quality Improvement [QI] projects as assigned. 13. Seeks out and participates in continuing education programs that will ensure knowledge skills and practices are current with practices in the field. 14. Required to become a certified instructor in managing behavior at the facility's expense. 15. Provides in-service training for program staff related to behavior management practices, philosophies and procedures. 16. Assists in managing supplies and ensures they are available as needed to appropriate staff. 17. Must be willing and able to work beyond normal workings hours during the day, weekends and holidays and various shifts as necessary. 18. Must be able to travel to other facilities, workshops, and out of state if necessary including overnight stays. On occasion airplane travel will be required. 19. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisorMARGINAL FUNCTIONS
1. Performs clerical functions, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., as requested by the Behavior Specialist. 2. Assists with orientation of new staff in relation to the behavioral management policies & procedures used in the facility. 3. Attends and participates in professional associations, organizations, activities and programs. 4. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility and treats everyone with dignity and respect.EXPOSURE RISK

At least one-year experience in behavior management or related field.WORKING CONDITIONS 1.
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently throughout the workday. 2. Is subject to frequent interruptions. 3. May be subject to infectious diseases, waste, conditions, etc., including the potential exposure to AIDS andHEPATTIS B
viruses. 4. Willing to work beyond normal working hours, various shifts, some weekends, and holidays and in other positions, temporarily, when necessary. 5. Subject to falls, cuts, bruises, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday. 6. Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. 7. Generally works in an air-conditioned and ventilated office as well as throughout the facility. 8. May work outdoors occasionally. 9. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs as directed.SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS 1.
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner. 2. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. 3. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and the public. 4. Must be comfortable and cooperative as a team player with other staff, willing to compromise and modify opinions and judgements. 5. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to manage residents regardless of their currently functioning maturity and cognitive levels. 6. Must possess the ability and interest to seek out new methods and principles of practice related to behavior management with the goal of ensuring the facility uses the least intrusive system available that treats others with dignity and respect. 7. Must be of good moral character. 8. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. 9. Must have and maintain a valid State of Mississippi drivers' license and meet the criteria to be insured with the company's motor vehicle insurance. 10. Must have basic computer knowledge and skills.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
(With or without the aid of mechanical devices) 1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. 2. Must be able to speak English and communicate effectively with others. 3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. 4. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetic devices to enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. 5. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies. 6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. 7. Must be comfortable working with persons with developmental disabilities. 8. Must demonstrate competency, after training, to fulfill the expectations of the position. 9. May be required to lift residents, equipment, supplies, etc. 10.
