Position Description:
At Las Américas ASPIRA Academy, the Biliteracy Instructional Coach supports the development of strong bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural learners by working collaboratively with teachers and administrators to strengthen literacy instruction in both Spanish and English. The Biliteracy Instructional Coach divides their time between supporting students' literacy development in both languages and providing coaching and professional learning for teachers to strengthen instructional practices aligned with the Science of Reading, biliteracy development, and dual language immersion pedagogy . This role includes supporting instruction for multilingual learners, promoting cross-linguistic connections between Spanish and English, and ensuring that literacy practices reflect high expectations for bilingualism and biliteracy across grade levels.
Minimum Requirements:
The following responsibilities align with the professional standards for literacy specialists and coaches while reflecting the biliteracy mission of Las Américas ASPIRA Academy. The Biliteracy Instructional Coach must be prepared to fulfill the duties of the following areas: Biliteracy Specialist Provide targeted literacy support and intervention for students developing reading and writing skills in Spanish and/or English. Instruction may occur within classrooms or through small group interventions and should reflect evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading and biliteracy development. Instructional Coach Provide ongoing coaching and professional development for teachers to strengthen literacy instruction in a dual language environment. This includes supporting teachers in implementing effective reading and writing practices, strengthening language development for multilingual learners, and promoting cross-linguistic transfer between Spanish and English. Biliteracy Program Coordinator Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of school-wide biliteracy initiatives. This includes analyzing student literacy data, supporting Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), coordinating literacy and biliteracy assessments, and helping guide instructional decisions that promote equitable outcomes for multilingual learners.
Additional responsibilities may include:
Serve as a resource in the areas of literacy, biliteracy, and language development for teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and families. Collaborate with teachers to design and implement high-quality literacy instruction aligned with dual language immersion and biliteracy goals. Support teachers in implementing effective reading, writing, and language development strategies grounded in the Science of Reading. Facilitate professional learning communities and provide professional development aligned with school literacy and biliteracy goals. Analyze student literacy data to support instructional planning and monitor student progress across grade levels. Support the implementation of MTSS systems related to literacy and language development. Promote instructional practices that support cross-linguistic transfer between Spanish and English. Support the development of a school culture that values bilingualism, biliteracy, and multiculturalism. Provide leadership in advocating for the needs and strengths of multilingual learners.
Qualifications:
Previous classroom teaching experience Previous experience mentoring or coaching teachers Experience teaching in a dual language immersion or bilingual education setting preferred Pass Praxis exam for the grades in which they are teaching Master's degree as a licensed reading specialist, literacy specialist, bilingual education, or related field Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English required
