Staff Job Description:
The Billing and Collection Specialist works inside the Oral Health Center and is responsible for dental billing and collections along with providing exceptional customer service to our patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Greets and assists patients warmly, ensuring a positive experience Answers phone calls, addresses inquiries, and provides information about dental services Collects patient payments, issues receipts, and maintains accurate financial records Updates and maintains patient records in the practice management software Verifies insurance eligibility, coverage and benefits for patients Accurately prepares and submits dental claims with supporting documents in a timely manner Audits correct dental codes are linked to the procedure Monitors claims before filing Follows up on unpaid claims and ensure timely collection of payments from insurance companies and patients Assists in updating insurance carrier's allowable and rules as they change Works with payers to resolve claim issues Reviews claims rejection reports and corrects any issues Research outstanding claims > 30 days in a timely manner Works with responsible parties to reconcile past due accounts Assists patients with payment plans and payment arrangements Assists with special projects and other assignments delegated by
Director of Finance Qualifications:
Knowledge typically obtained through high school diploma or equivalent Experience in billing and collections Prior front office or administrative experience Knowledge of dental insurance, CDT code, and HIPAA compliance Courteous and able to exercise diplomacy when working with patients and coworkers Proficient with current office technology and willingness to learn new applications and systems Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
