Job Description

General Description:
The Billing Clerk is responsible for managing billing and collections processes for hospital and clinics, including insurance filing, patient charges, and payment follow-up. This role involves submitting claims to insurance companies as well as monitoring payment status. The Billing Clerk also provides support with additional tasks as assigned. Routine working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday . The Billing Clerk must be able to extend the workday as needed during periods of high census or increased departmental workload.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit insurance claims to primary and secondary insurance carriers accurately and timely. Review patient accounts and ensure all charges are properly billed. Monitor payment status, following up on unpaid or denied claims. Resolve billing discrepancies by communicating with patients, third party payers and internal departments. Maintain accurate records of all billing, payment and collection activities. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including HIPAA and insurance guidelines. Assist in resolving patient billing inquiries promptly and professionally. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience
  • Basic knowledge of insurance policies, CPT/ICD-10 codes and reimbursement process. Skills
  • Ability to type 50-60 words per minute accurately. Strong finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate computer and adding machine efficiently. Solid numerical aptitude to perform job duties accurately. Work Style

  • Works effectively with Business Office, medical records personnel, hospital employees and the general public. Professionalism

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt to a changing work environment. Requirements
  • Must successfully pass the hospital drug screening upon hire and meet the physical demands of the position.
