To help us accomplish this, we are seeking a qualified Bioinformation. This position will be located in Lowell, OR. The Fall Creek Bioinformatician will be responsible for research related to Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics (Genome Sequencing, Gene identification, Marker development), Quantitative genetics, Machine Learning (ML), and DNA Sequence and other Database management. The Bioinformatician will also work closely with Breeding R D team and help analyze molecular and phenotypic data using modern tools like AI/ML, GWAS, and Genomics Selection (GS) methods. The Bioinformatician will also have deep understanding of bioinformatics for polyploid crops, SNP array-based breeding applications using Quantitative genetics methods and independently developing methods to analyze large SNP datasets for marker-trait association analysis. The Bioinformatician should also have knowledge of general Molecular lab processes like
PCR, DNA
extraction and quantification, agarose gel electrophoresis, handling automation. The person must have good communication skills both written and spoken, attention to details, be a team player, and be willing to coordinate research activities This position is in a Laboratory, Office, and field setting and will report to the Molecular Research Manager. What you'll do atFall Creek:
Implements and coordinates application of genomic selection (GS), Machine Learning (ML), Quantitative genetics, Bioinformatics principles and approaches using computer programming skills and experiences in Python and R. Understanding of statistical methods and their application in GS and AI/ML methods for model development and applications. Assisting Molecular Breeding Team in various experiments and bioinformatics research activities, and coordinates deliverables/deadlines with other lab members. Maintain detailed records and documentation of projects and procedures. Responsible for ensuring work is completed in a safe and respectful manner. Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters concerning the nursery and genomic data. Perform other laboratory and office duties like receiving lab supplies. Accurately records data of all activities including but not limited to task records, general evaluations, and observations in proper database as directed. Always maintain a clean and safe workplace (breeding farms, phenotyping labs, workstation, transfer room, machines, lab) in accordance with established protocols and policies Ability to prioritize work within established guidelines and follow through on a variety of requests. Regular and reliable attendance at the primary place of business. Bachelor's degree in Science with 5 years of experience in relevant area of research or Master's Degree with specialized skills related to computer programming, bioinformatics, genomic selection (GS), and Machine learning (ML) with 1 year of experience. Must have advanced computer programming skills in Python and R programs. Must be able to read literatures and synthesize information, and follow detailed instructions, directions, and protocols in English. Requires a high attention to detail and the ability to observe small deviations. Requires the ability to be highly organized in handling data, files, materials, equipment, and supplies. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, including the ability to develop positive relationships and maintain a positive attitude while working in a team environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to work in a clean environment with limited access to the outdoors. Regular and reliable attendance at the primary place of business. Openness to learn new skills and working collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to meet physical demands of the position.
