Job Summary:
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), under the general direction of the Director of Student Services, provides Applied Behavior Analytic (ABA) based consultative and evaluative services for preventative and intervention purposes in the school setting. The BCBA conducts descriptive and systematic behavioral assessments and provides behavior analytic interpretations of the results. The BCBA teaches others to carry out ethical and effective behavior analytic interventions based on published research and designs within a consultative framework.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts formal assessments within the context of the Special Education Evaluation process including Functional Behavior Assessment, Behavior Observation, and other ABA based assessments as determined necessary;
  • Participates in IEP Team Meetings in order to contribute to the team process of: determining need for ABA based services, updating performance, service delivery needs, and supporting the development of goals and objectives as needed;
  • Develops student specific data monitoring system for those requiring school based ABA services pursuant to their IEP for the purpose of regular and routine data analysis, graphing, and progress monitoring. This includes training school personnel on data collection and entry procedures and routinely sharing analysis findings with appropriate stakeholders;
  • Writes and updates student specific ABA Based Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for students on caseload;
  • Ensures that all treatment methodologies and strategies recommended are evidence based, meet the ethical requirement of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), and reflect the most recent research findings including being culturally responsive, strengths focused, assent based, and identity affirming;
  • Provides ABA based consultative services to team members pursuant to an IEP including: training, guidance, and coaching regarding behavior change procedures, reinforcement strategies, development of classroom and individual visual supports, environmental design, approach strategies, adult response(s), and related tasks;
  • Collaborates with the student's family and community based ABA provider as needed;
  • Works with the Director of Student Services and Special Education Team Chairs regarding the development and ongoing implementation of specialized programming and district programs;
  • Consult with school personnel on Tier 1 classwide behavior management strategies;
  • Provide general behavior intervention and support strategies within Student Support Teams as allowed per licensure and certification requirements;
  • Provides district wide training regarding verbal de-escalation and Physical Management Procedures using district adopted curriculum;
  • May provide crisis intervention support including modeling, coaching, and guiding school personnel related to de-escalation strategies;
  • Provides additional professional development opportunities for school personnel and parents;
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
