(VSHSI), a progressive Joint Commission Accredited Organization, is seeking a qualified and compassionate individual to fill one (1) individual that would best match a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor position for the Crystal City WIC office.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to join our WIC team. As a peer counselor, you will provide breastfeeding support, education, and encouragement to new and expectant mothers participating in the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping mother succeed in their breastfeeding journey.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will distribute and provide breastfeeding information and promote breastfeeding to WIC clients. Teach classes or assist in teaching classes on the advantages of breastfeeding. Management of normal breastfeeding experiences, one on one counseling to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, in person, over the phone, or virtually.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Offer encouragement, practical advice, and emotional support based on personal breastfeeding experience and training. 2. Assist with breastfeeding education during prenatal and postpartum periods. 3. Refer mothers to lactation consultants or healthcare professional for issues outside the peer counselor's scope. 4. Document client interactions and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA regulations. 5. Tactful, courteous, and sensitive to patients needs. 6. Able to follow instructions effectively. 7. Bilingual (English/Spanish) not required but preferred. 8. Employee will maintain current immunizations on self as prerequisite for employment. 9. Participate in health fairs and wellness events.
