Douglas PUD is hiring a Broadband Operations Specialist to help support our growing fiber broadband network and provide technical support to customers throughout our community. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technology, problem-solving, and helping people while building hands-on experience in networking and telecommunications. Position Summary:
The Broadband Operations Specialist provides front-line support for the District's broadband network and customers. This position is responsible for responding to customer connectivity issues, performing basic technical troubleshooting, and assisting with network monitoring and maintaining the broadband network. The position may also provide onsite customer support related to broadband services. This position works under the general supervision of the Douglas County Community Network (DCCN) Coordinator and collaborates closely with the Broadband Network Administrators.Work Schedule:
This position requires a non-traditional work schedule. After completion of an initial training period, the regular schedule will be 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Candidates must be willing and able to work this schedule on an ongoing basis.Essential Functions:
- Support and troubleshoot customer connectivity issues via phone and email.
- Provide basic technical support for customer devices, including personal computers, routers, and other internet-connected equipment.
- Provide onsite customer support related to broadband service, customer equipment, and connectivity issues as needed.
- Monitor network systems and report outages and performance issues to senior staff.
- Assist with the installation, support, and basic configuration of telecommunication and fiber systems under the direction of senior staff.
- Escalate complex technical issues to Broadband Network Administrators or the DCCN Coordinator as appropriate.
- Document work performed, customer interactions, and issue resolutions.
- Support the District's mission and value statements in the performance of job duties.
- Work respectfully and cooperatively with diverse groups of people and maintain professional interactions at all times in the workplace.
- Ensure compliance with all District policies.
- Adhere to the District's Safety Policy and Procedures.
- Operate District vehicles that may be equipped with a GPS device that monitors vehicle location while conducting business on behalf of the District.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Basic understanding of computer systems, networking, or telecommunications principles.
- Ability to learn network monitoring tools and troubleshooting processes.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information in a clear, concise, and courteous manner.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve routine technical issues with guidance and support.
- Strong-problem solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently.
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills over time.
Education and Experience:
Must have satisfactorily completed a high school education or equivalent. Technical training, coursework, or experience in information technology, networking, telecommunication, or a related field is preferred. Customer service, technical support, or experience working with Ethernet and wireless-based data networks is desirable.Competency Requirements:

A valid driver's license and proof of good driving record is required for this position (will be verified upon job offer). Out-of-state candidates must acquire a Washington State driver's license within 30 days of employment.Physical Requirements:
This position is performed in both office and field settings. The role requires the ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods, work at a computer, and occasionally travel to customer or District sites.
