RUSSELL COUNTY SCHOOLS BROADCASTING/TV PRODUCTION TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS
: (1) Bachelors degree in Broadcast Engineering, Broadcast Journalism, or job-related field preferred, or work experience within the industry at a minimum. (2) Career and Technical Certificate in Television Production. If coming from industry, the applicant must be prepared to earn the Career/Technical Certificate Bachelors Equivalent 1 within the first three years of teaching. (3) Job related experience is desired (4) Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; behavioral management strategies; assessment instruments and techniques; methods of instruction and training; materials and tools used in assigned skilled trade. SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.; applying curriculum and instructional techniques; operating equipment used in skilled trades; promoting activities and/or events. ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment.FLEXIBILITY
is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. N/APERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. (2) Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration. (3) Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan. (4) Coordinates educational curriculum in action opportunities for the purpose of providing students with authentic assessments. (5) Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues. (6) Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engages student learners for the purpose of providing an effective program that addressing individual student requirements. (7) Differentiates materials and methods for the purpose of providing assignments appropriate to the varying levels of students' skills. (8) Directs and supervises student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students. (9) Instructs students for the purpose of improving their knowledge and skills. (10) Maintains and keeps an inventory of equipment and materials for the purpose of ensuring availability of items. Manages supply budget for the purpose of achieving overall objectives of the department and maximizing the use of funds in compliance with established guidelines. (11) Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. (12) Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, performance venues, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. (13) Provides school embedded opportunities for students to learn through production of daily newscast for the school, promotional media/clips for Russell County Schools, etc. (14) Full compliance with TAPE and the Alabama Department of Education (15) Is thoroughly familiar with program budget. Orders supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability as needed. (16) Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. departmental, staff, district IEP's, SST's. 504's, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions. (17) Participates on PLC team for the purpose of reviewing data and instructional practices. (18) Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, newsletters, calendars, dual enrollment forms, purchase orders, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information, documenting student progress and/or meeting mandated requirements. (19) Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines. (20) Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. (21) Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction. (22) Work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.PHYSICAL REQUREMENTS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 85% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.EVALUATION
