Job Description
JOB MGT is pleased to partner with the Town of North Topsail Beach, NC (Pop.1.1K - 33K seasonally) in search of a new Building Codes Administrator to inspect construction and installation work in progress, and enforce State codes for building construction including the four trades areas of building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical, and for any provisions required by Town regulations
Minimum Qualifications for Building Inspector North Carolina Code Officials Qualifications Board certification at Level 2 or higher in each of the trade areas (Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical). Demonstrated ability and commitment to obtain Level 3 (standard) certification in all required trades within a timeframe established by the Town as a condition of continued employment in order to be reclassified to Building Code AdministratorFive (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, code enforcement, or construction.
Preferred QualificationsPrior supervisory experience or experience serving as a lead inspector.

Key Responsibilities:
Review Construction Plans:
Looks over site plans, blueprints, and other documents to understand new construction or major repair projects and ensure they meet state and local building codes.Conduct Inspections:
Inspect new and renovated buildings—residential, commercial, industrial, and multi-story—to ensure they follow building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes, as well as Town regulations.Provide Code Guidance:
Offers expert advice and makes final decisions on code interpretations. Works closely with contractors to help them understand and apply the rules.Oversee Permitting:
Supervises a permitting technician, manages the permitting process, and keeps accurate records of inspections, plans, and related documents. Prepare reports as needed.Lead Disaster Assessments:
After major events, assess property damage and safety risks. May order utility disconnections at unsafe sites.Handle Complaints:
Responds to citizen concerns about contractors, construction quality, and related issues.Manage Budget and Equipment:
Help develop the budget, oversee purchases, and ensure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained.Attend Public Meetings:
Prepares material, provides presentations, and attends Boards, Commissions, and Committee meetings.
