Building Codes Official / Codes & Zoning Officer 640 Eshelman Street, Highspire, PA 17034 $28.84 - $33.65 an hour - Full-time $28.84 - $33.65 an hour - Full-time Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Building Codes Official / Codes & Zoning Officer to ensure our community's safety, compliance, and development standards are upheld. In this vital role, you will oversee building inspections, enforce zoning regulations, and ensure construction projects adhere to all relevant codes and regulations. Your expertise will help foster safe, sustainable, and compliant growth within the community. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on public health and safety through diligent regulation enforcement and proactive compliance management. Responsibilities Conduct thorough inspections of new construction, renovations, and existing structures to verify compliance with building codes, zoning laws, and safety standards. Review building plans and permit applications to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards. Enforce zoning regulations by issuing permits, citations, or violations as necessary to maintain community standards. Collaborate with construction professionals, developers, architects, and the public to clarify code requirements and facilitate smooth project approvals. Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection findings, violations, and compliance status; maintain accurate records for regulatory reporting purposes. Stay current on evolving regulations such as FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulations where applicable to specific industries or structures. Participate in public hearings or meetings related to zoning changes or code amendments to promote transparency and community engagement. Experience Proven experience in building inspection, construction supervision, or regulatory compliance management. Strong knowledge of local building codes, zoning laws, OSHA standards, and relevant federal regulations including FDA guidelines when applicable. Demonstrated ability in report writing with clear documentation of inspection results and regulatory findings. Experience in compliance management within the construction or public health sectors is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels. Ability to interpret complex technical documents and apply regulatory requirements accurately in a fast-paced environment.
