Building Inspector

Job Summary The Town of Dauphin Island is seeking an experienced ICC-certified Building Inspector to perform municipal inspections in a coastal, flood-regulated jurisdiction . This role is ideal for inspectors with strong IBC/IRC knowledge , floodplain compliance experience , and the ability to work independently in the field while producing defensible inspection and enforcement documentation . Duties Conduct residential and commercial building inspections Inspect construction at all stages, including post-storm and post-disaster Enforce floodplain management, NFIP, and coastal construction standards Issue inspection reports, correction notices, and enforcement actions Provide technical guidance to contractors, engineers, architects, and owners Coordinate inspections with the Building Official and Planning staff Maintain accurate records using inspection software and mobile devices Requirements ICC certification (ACTIVE) - required at time of application Minimum 2 years municipal building inspection or code enforcement experience Knowledge of International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC) Valid driver's license with insurable driving record Preferred Qualifications - ICC Building Official certification Floodplain Inspection or NFIP Compliance experience Coast, High-wind, or hurricane-prone jurisdiction experience Post-disaster damage assessment inspections Municipal or county Inspection background Applicants without ICC Certification will not advance. • More information can be found at www.townofdauphinisland.org•

Pay:

$21.00 - $33.00 per hour
