Job Description

The Washington Commanders are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Building Manager to support facility operations at the Big Bear AI Performance Center. This role requires a proactive, solutions-focused operator who anticipates needs, responds quickly, and helps maintain a safe, functional, and high-performing environment for athletes, staff, and partners. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily operation of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire suppression/protection, life-safety systems, and vertical transportation. Operate and maintain the Building Management System (BMS) and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Coordinate and supervise routine maintenance, repairs, and assist with custodial operations to ensure the facility remains clean, safe, and fully functional. Develop and support proactive maintenance programs to identify issues early and reduce downtime. Conduct regular facility inspections and prepare detailed reports on building condition, safety compliance, and operational performance. Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, league requirements, and internal policies. Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, repairs, inspections, and compliance records. Support emergency preparedness efforts, including staff training, safety drills, hazard mitigation, and evacuation route planning. Promote a culture of safety, preventative care, and operational excellence across the facility. Provide direction and oversight to maintenance staff, support performance standards, and daily task execution. Coordinate with internal departments (Performance, IT, Security, Operations, etc.) to support facility technology needs and enhancements. Interface with vendors and contractors to ensure timely, high-quality service delivery. Respond promptly to facility-related inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and deliver strong internal customer service. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall operational effectiveness. Qualifications Essential Skills & Attributes Strong knowledge of building systems and facility operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety protocols. Proven ability to lead or support teams, manage vendors, and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and facility management software. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks efficiently. Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, codes, and facility management best practices. Experience in a professional sports, training, or performance facility is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Strong attendance and punctuality required. Education & Experience Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in facility operations, building management, or a similar role. High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in facilities management, business administration, engineering, or a related field preferred. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout large facilities for extended periods. Work is primarily indoors; outdoor exposure is less than 10%. Ability to converse effectively in person and over the phone. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Must be able to respond to overnight and weekend calls when needed.
