Job Description

ThinkSelf is a Minnesota-based nonprofit serving Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled and hard of hearing individuals from all backgrounds. Our work focuses on two main areas: Adult Education and Advocacy. We provide accessible learning opportunities for adults who want to improve their skills in reading, writing, sign language, math and technology. Our advocates support individuals who have experienced domestic violence, crime, or other challenges, offering guidance, safety planning, and connections to resources. The ThinkSelf Board governs the overall execution of the organization's mission. Principally, the Board manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs, including the development of the 5-year Strategic Plan and ThinkSelf's 10 year Anniversary Celebration . Additionally, the Board oversees the Executive Director, who is responsible for day-to-day management of the organization. Overall, the members of the Board contribute the educational, management, legal, and financial skills needed to ensure long term organizational stability and ensure year-to-year educational excellence for ThinkSelf's mission. The Board of Directors has up to 9 voting members. Terms are for 3 years. Board Member responsibilities include attending regular board meetings (minimum 6 per year), as well as virtual meetings and active email conversations as part of Board committees. In some years. Board members also hold a fiduciary responsibility for management of organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with the organization's status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The attendance policy allows for removal if three consecutive meetings are missed without notice. ThinkSelf currently requires the following qualifications: Knowledge and belief in the organization's mission and desire to make a positive impact; Relevant life or professional experience that aligns with the organization's mission Willingness to engage in strategic planning and advocacy efforts. Availability to attend board and committee meetings. Experience in the following is not required but highly valued: Leadership in boards and/or organizations Fundraising Finance and organization budgeting
