//hr.howard.edu/benefits-wellness The Associate Vice President/Chief Strategy Officer serves as a strategist, advisor, convener, and implementer, helping to drive divisional effectiveness, enhance collaboration across departments, and support the university's broader mission and strategic enrollment objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a key strategic advisor to the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success on divisional priorities, operational effectiveness, organizational planning, and implementation of strategic initiatives. Coordinate and synchronize the work of units across the Enrollment Management and Student Success portfolio to ensure alignment with institutional goals and divisional objectives. Manage the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the Office of the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success. Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of cross-functional strategies, initiatives, policies, and procedures that strengthen divisional operations and improve service delivery. Monitor key performance indicators, enrollment trends, student success metrics, and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement, inform decision-making, and advance divisional goals. Partner with divisional leaders to support strategic planning, project execution, resource alignment, and organizational effectiveness efforts. Track the progress of major projects and initiatives across the division and ensure timely completion of deliverables and high-quality outcomes. Foster collaboration among enrollment and student success units, as well as with academic and administrative partners across the university, to support a seamless and integrated student experience. Support efforts related to systems improvement, process redesign, quality assurance, compliance, fiscal stewardship, and internal communications across the division. Assist with the development of reports, presentations, planning materials, and executive communications for internal and external audiences. Represent the Senior Vice President in meetings and engagements with university leadership, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders, as appropriate. Provide leadership in developing a culture of accountability, responsiveness, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the division. Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the goals and priorities of the division. Supervisory Responsibilities The Associate Vice President/Chief Strategy Officer is responsible for direct supervision of staff within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success. Supervisory responsibilities include staff selection, onboarding, performance management, professional development, disciplinary action, and other related personnel functions. The incumbent plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of staff to ensure effective operations and successful outcomes. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated leadership and management experience in complex organizations, preferably within higher education or similarly mission-driven institutions. Strong strategic planning, operational leadership, and project management skills. Ability to lead through influence, collaboration, and sound judgment in a complex academic environment. Knowledge of enrollment management, student success, administrative operations, and/or organizational strategy in higher education. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform planning, decision-making, and performance improvement. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders across all levels of the institution. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and a high standard of quality. Strong organizational development, change management, and process improvement capabilities. Understanding of information systems and business processes that support enrollment, student services, and institutional effectiveness. Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration, build consensus, and advance shared goals across multiple departments and stakeholder groups. Financial and operational acumen, including experience supporting resource planning and organizational decision-making. Sensitivity to and appreciation for the mission of the university and the importance of supporting student access, success, and belonging. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in higher education administration, business administration, public administration, organizational leadership, or a related field. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in administrative leadership, strategic operations, enrollment management, student success, organizational management, or a related area. Preferred Qualifications Experience in higher education administration with direct exposure to enrollment management, student success, or related functions. Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and implementing strategic or operational improvements across multiple departments. Demonstrated success in using data and metrics to drive organizational performance and support executive decision-making. Experience supporting senior executives or leading complex initiatives in a large, decentralized environment. Familiarity with the administrative, compliance, and operational frameworks that support enrollment and student success functions. Nature and Scope Internal contacts include students, faculty, staff, administration, academic deans, directors, and senior leaders across the university. The incumbent works closely with leaders and staff within all units of the Enrollment Management and Student Success portfolio, as well as with partners across academic affairs, finance, technology, communications, and other administrative areas. External contacts may include prospective students and families, educational organizations, vendors, consultants, community partners, and other stakeholders associated with enrollment strategy, student success, and university operations. Working Relationships This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success and works in close partnership with divisional leadership to advance the goals of the division and the institution. Compliance Salary Range Disclosure Expected Pay Range:
