Job Description:
Job Requirements Job Summary This UMMS residency will allow an individual to observe, learn, and perform as a member of the UM SJMC Executive Team. The position includes work in organizational strategic planning, performance improvement, project leadership, and project management. The residency also offers opportunities to work on and lead projects at any one of the UMMS Member Organizations within the system. It provides exposure to the executive decision-making process, strategic planning sessions, and participation in performance improvement initiatives, include exposure to business plan development, project management, and the assessment of financial feasibility through hands-on experience and training. Primary Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.
  • Observe executive leaders in decision-making meetings, project meetings, and strategy review sessions. This includes taking detailed notes, understanding the context of discussions, and identifying key takeaways.
  • Learn new skills in business plan development, performance improvement, project management, and financial feasibility studies. This involves participating in workshops, training sessions, and hands-on projects to gain practical experience
  • Perform strategic analysis to support the implementation of UMMS Performance Improvement initiatives. This includes collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and presenting findings to the executive team.
  • Proposed areas of learning include: o Performance improvement/ project management: understanding and applying methodologies to enhance organizational performance and manage projects effectively.
o Population health initiatives aimed at improving the health outcomes of specific populations. o Business plan development includes the development of comprehensive business plans that outline strategies, goals, and financial projections. o Implementation and optimization of all UMMS strategic priorities and UM SJMC alignment, ensuring that strategic priorities are effectively implemented and continuously optimized for better results.
  • Gain exposure to the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center's structure by attending organization-wide leadership planning meetings, leading to an understanding of organizational hierarchy, key functions, and interdepartmental collaborations.
  • Develop project management skills by aiding in the implementation of process improvement initiatives, including planning, executing, and monitoring projects to ensure they meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Perform strategic analyses to support the feasibility and return on investment of all strategic investments and opportunities, including supporting the implementation of those approved. This includes conducting cost-benefit analysis, risk assessments, and providing recommendations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned. Work Experience Education & Experience - Required
  • Second year student matriculating in the Master of Health Administration degree program at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the use of Access, Excel, WordPerfect, PowerPoint, or other spreadsheet and graphics software applications required.
  • Strong research skills, including conducting research using the internet and other online library services.
  • Ability to collect, design, and interpret data and prepare professional text reports and graphic presentations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and problem-solving skills are required to work successfully with diverse staff members throughout the organization.
