Occasional supplier/vendor visits, mostly local About the Opportunity A growing manufacturing organization in the Monterey, CA area is seeking a Buyer to support purchasing, supplier management, material planning, and shipping coordination activities. This position plays a key role in ensuring materials and services are sourced effectively to support production, customer requirements, cost objectives, and delivery timelines. The ideal candidate will have experience in purchasing, buying, procurement, supply chain, or materials coordination. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment and exposure to MRP/ERP systems is strongly preferred, but candidates with strong transferable buying experience will also be considered. What You'll Do Review and action MRP outputs to support production and business needs. Manage open purchase order items to help ensure timely delivery. Maintain supplier relationships and support sourcing of new suppliers when needed. Evaluate supplier pricing, quality, delivery performance, and responsiveness. Review quotes and support negotiation of pricing, terms, and cost-saving opportunities. Monitor price variances and support cost-reduction initiatives. Maintain appropriate stock levels in alignment with business requirements. Support supplier performance reviews and vendor improvement initiatives. Communicate purchasing, supplier, and delivery updates to internal stakeholders. Assist with production shortages, shipping quotes, carrier coordination, and PO receipt processing as needed. Support purchasing KPIs, supplier reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. Follow applicable purchasing procedures, quality expectations, and company policies. What We're Looking For Experience in purchasing, buying, procurement, supply chain, materials coordination, or a related function. Strong organization, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Clear and professional communication skills with suppliers, internal teams, and management. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate purchasing and supplier data. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort working with purchasing, inventory, or supplier information. Ability to work fully onsite in Monterey, CA. Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. Ability to occasionally travel to supplier/vendor sites, mostly local. Ability to work in a role that may include desk-based work, production floor exposure, warehouse/vendor site exposure, standing/walking as needed, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Preferred Experience Purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience working with MRP or ERP systems. SyteLine experience is a plus. Experience with supplier performance management, vendor improvement, or purchasing KPIs. Experience with cost negotiation or cost-reduction initiatives. Familiarity with technical drawings, engineered components, or technical purchasing requirements. Experience supporting New Product Development or production-related purchasing activities.
