Job Description

Purchasing Agent FLSA Classification/Status:

Known for award-winning products, combining clean-label innovation with global sourcing partnerships that emphasize sustainability and integrity. With a strong foundation and growing retail footprint, the organization is seeking a Purchasing Agent to help operations continue to run smoothly and support the growth of our business.
Summary of Role and Essential Functions:
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for placing purchase orders for materials and for undertaking administrative support of raw components, packaged goods, bulk goods, and miscellaneous items. They are responsible for placing stock replenishment orders to maintain adequate inventory levels of sellable products plus planning for production through order of packaging, ingredients, and materials necessary for production.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Evaluates suppliers by considering price, quality and availability Maintains records of all transactions, purchase orders, receipts and payments Builds and maintains positive, long-term supplier relations Place purchase orders with co-packers to produce finished goods Plan for production through order of packaging, ingredients, and materials necessary for production Monitor and analyze inventory of finished goods and components needed for production to ensure stable inventory levels Work cross-functionally with marketing on packaging approval and samples upon each purchase Work cross-functionally with Quality Assurance on necessary COAs and QA requirements for co-packers Create transfer of ingredients for production, support logistics team with delivery to co-packer warehouses Utilize production reports provided by co-packers to build finished goods in ERP system Keep track of finished goods at copacker warehouses and facilitate transfer to necessary warehouse when production is complete Perform regular reconciliation of copacker inventories Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Experience:
BA degree or equivalent in related field or equivalent work experience 3+ years of related purchasing/ procurement experience Work hours, location, and environment: This position is based in Monterey, CA. with occasional travel to other locations required. This is a full time, 40 hour a week position.
