Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer for a temp-to-hire opportunity. This role is responsible for leading sourcing and procurement activities across assigned categories, developing supplier strategies, and supporting cross-functional teams to ensure product availability and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, leadership experience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead sourcing and procurement activities for assigned categories Develop and implement category-specific sourcing strategies Identify, develop, and manage supplier relationships Evaluate and analyze supplier performance on a regular basis Negotiate with suppliers to achieve the lowest total cost Provide product availability commitments and proactively mitigate shortages Partner with internal stakeholders, including senior management, to align sourcing strategies Collaborate with Engineering, Marketing, and Accounting to establish product budgets Support new product introduction (NPI) and develop effective product launch plans Act as a liaison across departments to resolve product-related issues Participate in ERP system implementation and ongoing maintenance Exercise independent judgment in complex decision-making with significant financial impact Lead or support purchasing team activities, as needed Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years of direct purchasing/procurement experience, preferably with leadership or supervisory responsibilities Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, inventory control, and supply chain operations Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) Experience working with ERP systems (vendor portal experience a plus) Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in medical device manufacturing within an FDA-regulated environment Prior experience managing or mentoring a small purchasing team
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience required. Professional certifications (e.g., CPM, APICS) are a plus.
Additional Information:
This is a temp-to-hire position with the opportunity for full-time employment based on performance and business needs. Compensation and Benefits The hourly rate for this position is $55-$65, based on experience and qualifications. As a temporary role, this position is not eligible for Sciton's standard employee benefits or equity/stock incentive programs. However, it offers the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team and gain valuable experience within the organization.
