Position Summary The Buyer is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of assigned commodities in support of production and business objectives. This includes demand forecasting, placing purchase orders, managing suppliers, providing shop support, and inventory control. Essential Functions Forecast material requirements based on production needs, demand plans, and historical usage. Create and manage purchase orders. Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, delivery, and cost objectives are met. Evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability, and other criteria. Monitor and manage inventory levels. Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms with vendors. Evaluate supplier performance and lead corrective actions as needed. Identify and support cost reduction efforts. Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory data within the ERP/MRP system. Coordinate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Finance teams to resolve supply issues. Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy in dealings with coworkers and managers. Competencies Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems and demand planning principles. Experience placing and managing purchase orders in a manufacturing environment. Negotiation skills. Analytical skills. Sound judgment and decision-making abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience and Education 3+ years of purchasing experience is required. Bachelor's degree in a business field is preferred. A background working in the aerospace manufacturing industry is strongly preferred. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
