Purchasing Associate

SUMMARY OF POSITION

To assist with procuring assigned goods and services, along with maintaining adequate inventory levels to support demand. Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality, warranty/return goods, and inventories. Contacts vendors to obtain return authorization for defective or unacceptable goods. Under minimal supervision, participates in the selection of, and is responsible for the management of reliable sources of supply to ensure a steady flow of quality products at the lowest possible cost. Position reports directly to Purchasing Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Generates and publishes Request for Quotes (RFQ)
• Reviews RFQ responses and may be involved with negotiation of prices.
• Participates in the supplier selection process.
• Creates and manages purchase orders.
• Escalates/de-escalates deliveries according to changing needs.
• Responsible for interfacing with supplier base.
• Responsible for planning and procuring assigned commodities.
• Responsible for inventory analysis and forecast analysis.
• Manage supplier backorders.
• Responsible for due-date maintenance.
• Responsible for inventory levels for assigned commodities.
• Assists in c ost savings and avoidance through negotiation and resourcing.
• Assist suppliers with prints, and engineering specifications as required.
• Assist suppliers as required to improve supplier performance rating.
• Responsible to work with supplier to disposition discrepant material.
• Visits supplier's facility to validate their ability to meet quality and capacity.
• Responsible for results of PPV (Purchase Price Variance).
• May be involved in the Negotiation of long-term contract and agreements.
• Works with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS

• Purchasing experience in a production environment preferred.
• Microsoft Excel experience preferred.
• ERP/MRP experience required.
• Able to work in a fast paced, dynamic production environment.
• Be a team player as well as able to work independently.
• Valid Indiana Driver's license.
