Import Buyer - Fasteners / Purchasing Overview A growing, supply-chain focused distribution company is seeking an Import Buyer - Fasteners to join its purchasing team. This organization differentiates itself through product design, engineering, and global sourcing partnerships, supporting a highly service-driven customer base. With strong growth plans ahead, this role is critical in ensuring supply continuity, managing global supplier relationships, and navigating commodity-driven market dynamics. Position Summary The Import Buyer will be responsible for sourcing and managing fastener suppliers internationally, maintaining strong vendor relationships, and supporting purchasing strategies that align with demand forecasting and market conditions. This role offers the opportunity to step into a key function within a collaborative team, with exposure to global sourcing, commodity markets, and supply chain strategy. Key Responsibilities Manage relationships with established overseas suppliers Identify and onboard new suppliers as business needs evolve Monitor commodity markets (e.g., metals, freight, currency) and assess impact on purchasing decisions Coordinate import logistics, including tariffs and compliance considerations Forecast purchasing needs based on demand trends and inventory strategy Analyze market conditions to support cost and sourcing decisions Mitigate inventory risk related to product or specification changes Collaborate cross-functionally to support supply chain and operational goals Qualifications Required Experience in fasteners, hardware, or a related industry Approximately 5+ years of purchasing or sourcing experience Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to think beyond transactional buying and identify trends Comfortable working with systems and data Preferred Experience with import purchasing and global sourcing Knowledge of tariff codes and international trade (HTS) Familiarity with ERP systems and data tools (e.g., Power BI) Understanding of commodity metals (steel, aluminum, zinc) Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment Ideal Candidate Profile Analytical and market-aware Proactive and intellectually curious Comfortable operating in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment Strong relationship builder with suppliers Able to balance day-to-day execution with strategic thinking Culture & Work Environment Relationship-driven and team-oriented culture High-integrity, professional environment Collaborative team with strong tenure and institutional knowledge Opportunities for learning and growth as the company continues to expand Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer match Paid time off and holiday schedule Performance-based bonus opportunities Schedule Standard business hours with some flexibility Occasional coordination with international suppliers outside typical hours On-site role
