Job Description:
LHH is seeking an experienced Buyer for a DIRECT HIRE, full time position with a growing manufacturing organization in the Indianapolis area to support high-volume manufacturing and aftermarket operations. This role is 95% purchasing-focused and is ideal for someone who is confident managing purchase orders, working closely with suppliers, and ensuring material availability without needing significant direction. Compensation $65,000 - $73,000 base salary (commensurate based on experience). Overview The Buyer is responsible for day-to-day purchasing activities that support production and service operations. This position is heavily supplier-facing and centers on PO management, order accuracy, and delivery execution. Inventory planning and expediting are minimal and handled primarily as backup support. This role supports both domestic and international suppliers. While international experience is not required, exposure to global suppliers is a plus.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Manage purchase orders from creation through receipt, ensuring quantities, pricing, and promise dates are accurate
  • Follow up with suppliers to confirm acknowledgements, shipment dates, and delivery status
  • Maintain continuity of supply to support production schedules and service demand
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships and act as the primary point of contact
  • Utilize MRP systems to monitor material requirements and inventory levels
  • Resolve invoice and pricing discrepancies
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, scheduling, quality, and supply chain teams
  • Maintain accurate system data including lead times, pricing, and safety stock parameters What Success Looks Like
  • On-time material availability supporting production and service needs
  • Strong supplier performance and clear recovery plans when issues arise
  • Same-day responsiveness to supplier and internal requests
  • Well-managed inventories aligned with business requirements
  • Trusted, professional relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3-5 years of direct purchasing experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment
  • Strong understanding of how purchase orders flow through a manufacturing operation
  • Experience working with ERP systems
  • Solid knowledge of inventory fundamentals and expediting processes
  • Comfortable working directly with suppliers and holding them accountable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables) Ideal Profile
  • Self-directed and comfortable working without constant oversight
  • Clear, confident communicator
  • Organized and able to prioritize competing demands effectively
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
