Protecting People. " We are seeking a Buyer 1 to partner with our experienced purchasing team in this environmentally focused industry. A Buyer 1 at Smith and Loveless is responsible for planning and purchasing component parts to create and maintain optimum inventory levels and to assure the highest quality product and service for the Company's material investment dollar. Job duties Receive purchase requisitions and/or review MRP and stock status for order requirements, determine the supplier, negotiate price, terms, and date of delivery. Assist in ensuring the Company of lowest purchasing cost by analyzing and negotiating with suppliers and by continually searching for new suppliers. Expedite and prioritize receipt of material from vendors. Ensure component specifications from suppliers by consulting with engineering, visiting area manufacturers, and contact with suppliers' representatives. Keep inventory at optimum levels through application of inventory planning techniques consistent with inventory policy, and constantly review obsolete and slow-moving materials for disposition. Support Manufacturing with parts added through the revision process, review for possible substitution using stock parts and evaluate the stock status of parts deleted on revisions. Communicate the availability of materials to Manufacturing and Parts Sales in a timely manner. Coordinate efforts with Engineering and Sales departments as well as outside suppliers to optimize availability. Ensure timely flow of materials from vendors to avoid production delays by monitoring open orders for timely receipt of material, follow-up with vendor/manufacturer and as necessary with receiving, production control and apprising schedule with regards to parts which cannot meet schedules. Work with accounting to ensure suppliers are paid correctly. Assist in handling issues related to materials that don't meet requirements (i.e.: specified incorrectly, damaged, received incorrectly, etc.). Review MRP and Determine when parts are needed, quantity, the best supplier. Each part will be evaluated based on when it's needed and if it's a regular part or a special part. Strong Internet research skills Double check the specs to ensure accurate purchasing Ensure purchase orders are correct Work with quality assurance Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Purchasing Manager. Skills/Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study is preferred. 2 years of buying or inventory control experience preferred. Experience using a manufacturing requirement planning (MRP) system. Epicor MRP experience preferred. Must be able to read engineering drawings and schematics. Have the ability to negotiate contracts that deliver value to the Company. Capable of multi-tasking and handling interruptions with professionalism. Must possess strong computer skills. Comfortable and effective interacting with Engineering and Production Control departments in a manufacturing environment Physical requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
