The Buyer, under the direction of the Director of Purchasing, places purchase orders for assigned commodities, checks purchase orders against production schedules, expedites orders, when necessary, and assists other departments in the development of descriptions and specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Procures assigned commodities according to company policies and procedures Reviews planning requirements report and/or departmental requisitions to ensure that adequate supplies are on hand to meet scheduled production targets and/or requested delivery dates for MRO type requisitions 70% MRO Maintenance and Repair Operations Adjusts purchase orders, as necessary, to reflect changes in planned production and expediting material orders, when necessary, for assigned areas Conducts interviews with vendor representatives to establish primary and secondary sources of materials and to ensure that materials are purchased in a cost-effective manner Negotiating all claims for shortages, damage, or defective materials received from assigned vendors and arranging for proper disposition With approval from the Director of Purchasing, resolves invoice price and quantity discrepancies referred to Purchasing by Accounting Provides and maintains pricing information to facilitate the development of accurate cost standards Assists other departments in the generation of descriptions and appropriate specifications for component materials and general supplies Under the supervision of the Director of Purchasing, work with the supply base to gain efficiencies within the supply chain and drive cost reductions The qualified candidate must have an A.A. degree, or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, or a combination of equivalent work experience and successful bachelor's degree completion. They will also have above average interpersonal skills, ability to work with limited direct supervision, and to deal effectively with associates within all levels of the company and with vendor representatives, attention to detail, ability to balance strategic goals with tactical goals, and be have proficient computer skills including strong experience with Microsoft Suite.
