Position Summary The Lead Buyer is responsible for leading the purchase of assigned commodities to meet production needs and internal specifications. Knowledge of all roles supporting. Commodities include those of a complex nature including the type of commodity and/or volume. The Lead Buyer will lead negotiations with and manage relationships with suppliers, will manage the purchasing cycle, including requisitions, purchase orders, will monitor supplier performance, recommend improvements, and address supplier quality issues related to supplier product. The Lead Buyer will provide input on performance for Buyers and will fill-in for the supervisor when absent or unavailable. What You'll do as a Lead Buyer Identify prospective suppliers and analyse capabilities. Release and monitor purchase orders to maintain material flow, expediting when needed. Collaborate with AP and receiving on supplier invoice management and inventory control. Develop short and long-term purchase plans. Engage in negotiations with vendors on pricing, delivery, service, payment terms, and quality. Analyse suppliers for financial health and stability. Support STERIS new product initiatives. Manage supplier performance metrics (OTD, Quality, Price, etc.). Maintain supplier relationships in line with STERIS values. Ensure compliance with supplier-facing legal documents. Optimize replenishment methods, supplier lead times, and material box sizes. Leverage ERP systems for accurate supplier and item information. The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed Required Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related discipline. Plus 5 years of experience in manufacturing, inventory control, warehouse management, or related field. OR High School Diploma/GED Plus 16 years of experience in procurement. Preferred Experience in Lean manufacturing environment. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Experience in MRP system environment. Experience in coordinating activities of other team members in various aspects of procurement and sourcing. This position is eligible for bonus participation. Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.
