Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Buyer coordinates purchases within the Medical Center to ensure departments have needed supplies and equipment. Collaborates with departments regarding opportunities for reducing expenses.PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.- Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2.
- Ensures the purchase of supplies and minor equipment items in a timely manner. 3.
- Works with all departments and vendors for reviewing, placing, price verification, and follow-up of orders. 4.
- Promotes cost containment through recommendations regarding supply expense reduction and contract utilization. 5.
- Maintains current purchasing information on the computerized inventory system. 6.
- Ensures open and honest competition among vendors; evaluates services provided by each vendor. 7. Assists in monitoring vendor activities within the Medical Center and ensures vendors meet all their obligations. 8. Coordinates product substitution and product returns. 9.
- Works with Management Accounting in a timely manner to correct any invoice discrepancies. 10.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of sound purchasing practices. 2. Knowledge of medical products and equipment. 3. Knowledge of vendor negotiations. 4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 5. Ability to comprehend medical and nursing terminology as it relates to purchasing functions at Bryan Medical Center. 6. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate multiple tasks/projects with minimal supervision. 7. Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in working with hospital personnel, medical staff, visitors and vendors. 8. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 9. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 10. Ability to research information, perform mathematical computations and make evaluations/recommendations based on information obtained. 11. Ability to establish and maintain departmental records and filing systems. 12. Ability to handle many interruptions due to multiple calls and inquiries. 13. Ability to perform work effectively under stressful and emergency situations.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalency required. Associates degree in business administration or related field preferred. Minimum of one (1) year hospital or industrial purchasing required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
