Job Description

We are a leading Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of custom industrial machinery looking for an experienced Senior Buyer to join our operations team. In this role, you will report directly to the VP of Operations and play a critical part in our manufacturing process by purchasing raw materials, specialized equipment, and custom fabricated parts based on engineering drawings. The ideal candidate has a strong background in discrete manufacturing or heavy equipment environments and possesses the unique ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints to select the right vendors for custom fabrications.
Key Responsibilities:
Blueprint-Based Sourcing:
Review engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to determine appropriate fabrication and machining vendors to secure the best cost and quality.
Procurement Management:
Purchase raw materials, custom tools, fabricated parts, and specialized components required to build complex machinery.
Supplier Performance & Lean Logistics:
Evaluate and manage suppliers based on a lean manufacturing schedule, ensuring on-time delivery, exact quantities, and zero sacrifice in quality.
Bidding & Negotiation:
Prepare purchase orders or bid requests, utilizing existing purchasing contracts effectively while establishing new vendors for cost savings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner closely with the Engineering department regarding technical drawings and coordinate with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies and new supplier paperwork.
Product Development Support:
Assist in early-stage product development by providing component parts forecasting, material availability, and cost feedback.
Inventory & Quality Control:
Maintain computerized procurement records and work with quality control/inspection personnel to quickly resolve any defective or unacceptable goods.
Position Requirements:
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required (No college degree required).
Experience:
7-10 years of industrial purchasing/procurement experience.
Technical Skills:
Must be able to read, comprehend, and interpret manufacturing engineering drawings / blueprints. •
Industry Background:
Strong preference for candidates coming from OEM equipment manufacturing, custom fabrication, heavy machinery, or aerospace/precision component backgrounds.
Software Proficiency:
Extensive computer skills required, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ERP/MRP procurement systems.
Soft Skills:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to confidently adjust and change priorities in a fast-paced environment.
