Position Overview:
A family-owned manufacturing organization is seeking a strategic Buyer to support its on-site operations. This highly visible role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make data-driven purchasing decisions that directly influence cost efficiency, service levels, and overall business performance. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable navigating ambiguity, and can confidently balance operational priorities while supporting long-term supply chain goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Highly analytical purchasing role focused on evaluating ERP/MRP recommendations and making strategic, business-driven decisions. Oversees the full purchase order lifecycle, from creation through delivery and payment. Uses forecasting, inventory levels, production schedules, and demand trends to guide purchasing decisions. Partners cross-functionally with Planning, Production, Warehouse, Accounting, and Quality teams to support operational efficiency. Maintains inventory levels aligned with company inventory strategies and DIO goals. Builds and manages strong domestic supplier relationships, particularly within corrugated materials and labeling. Supports supplier negotiations, RFQs, and contract management with a focus on cost control and value optimization. Identifies and drives cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and on-time delivery standards. Assists with quality initiatives, supplier corrective actions, and performance improvement efforts. Monitors supplier performance metrics and leverages Excel and data analysis to support reporting and purchasing decisions. Must‑
Have Qualifications:
Advanced Excel skills with strong ability to organize, analyze, and interpret large volumes of purchasing and operational data. Demonstrated experience making informed buying decisions using complex data sets rather than relying solely on ERP-generated recommendations. Experience working within ERP systems in a manufacturing environment; SAP experience preferred, though comparable systems are also valued. Self-motivated, proactive professional with a positive attitude and strong sense of accountability. Strong negotiation and cost-management skills with a focus on driving savings and operational value. Comfortable working in ambiguous situations and confident making judgment-based decisions. Proven track record of stability, reliability, and consistency in prior roles. Ability to prioritize effectively in a high-volume environment where hundreds of purchasing recommendations may be generated daily. Success in the role requires balancing data analysis, operational collaboration, and real-world business judgment to determine the most critical purchasing actions.
Assessment & Submission Requirements:
Candidates must complete Excel skills testing to demonstrate strong analytical and data management capabilities. A DISC Assessment is required as part of the evaluation process.
