Job Description Job Summary The Purchasing Agent/Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials, equipment, and services required for metal roofing operations. This role ensures cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality standards, supplier reliability, and timely delivery to support production and project schedules. This position is in-person preferred, with possibility of remote work. Key Responsibilities Source and purchase metal roofing materials such as steel coils, aluminum sheets, fasteners, coatings, insulation, and accessories Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, mills, and distributors Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to achieve cost savings and favorable conditions Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with warehouse and production teams to maintain optimal stock Issue purchase orders and track order status to ensure on-time delivery Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, pricing, and delivery reliability Stay informed on market trends, including metal pricing fluctuations (steel, aluminum, etc.) Collaborate with project managers and estimators to forecast material needs Resolve issues related to delays, shortages, or defective materials Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations Preferred Skills Understanding of metal markets (steel, aluminum pricing trends) Ability to read construction drawings and material takeoffs Experience with inventory management systems Analytical mindset with cost-control focus Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Work Environment Office-based with frequent communication with suppliers and internal teams Occasional visits to warehouses, job sites, or supplier facilities May require extended hours during peak construction seasons Qualifications High school diploma or GED is required Minimum of two (2) years of purchasing / procurement experience is preferred Manufacturing administrative support experience is preferred Must be PC proficient and have a good understanding of Microsoft Office products, e-mail and Internet use Strong customer service skills Ability to resolve problems both internally and externally with customers Ability to think conceptually and produce desired results A combination of education and experience may be qualifying Additional Information Our teams are at the heart of our purpose to positively contribute to the communities where we live, work and play .
