Job Description
The Procurement Specialist leads purchasing activities that support efficient operations, cost control, and strategic growth. This role oversees sourcing, supplier selection, contract negotiation, and process improvement across indirect and direct spend. The Procurement Manager works closely with internal partners to understand business needs, strengthen procurement governance, and improve the value delivered through supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supply chain management, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven track record of achieving cost savings and efficiency improvements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES
Spend Management and Analysis Review spending across categories to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for savings. Analyze supplier tenure, pricing history, volume patterns, and contract status to support decision-making. Maintain visibility into buying behaviors, including purchasing card usage and non-standard buying channels. Prepare recommendations that support strategic decision-making and cost improvement goals. Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Selection Develop, implement, and manage a strategic procurement plan that aligns with the company's goals. Source, evaluate, and select suppliers and vendors, focusing on quality, cost, and delivery performance. Engage internal partners to confirm scope, business needs, service expectations, and technical requirements. Lead sourcing events, including request for proposals, competitive bids, and direct negotiations. Assess supplier capabilities, product offerings, service quality, pricing structures, delivery performance and overall value. Consolidate suppliers when appropriate to reduce cost and improve service. Recommend supplier awards using clear criteria and transparent analysis. Support category management activities and maintain documentation related to sourcing outcomes. Contracting and Negotiation Negotiate favorable terms, conditions, and pricing with suppliers to achieve cost reduction targets. Develop, negotiate, and manage supplier contracts to align with service, quality, price, and performance requirements. Review contract terms, conditions, and compliance requirements to protect the organization's interests. Collaborate with legal and internal teams to finalize agreements. Track contract expiration dates, negotiate renewals, and initiate re-bid cycles as required by Policy Supplier Relationship Management Manage and monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to contractual agreements and quality standards. Maintain productive relationships with suppliers to support service quality and long-term value. Evaluate supplier performance against expectations and escalate issues when necessary. Ensure suppliers meet agreed service standards, delivery timelines, and contractual obligations. Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve service issues or discrepancies. Address performance issues through structured communication and corrective action planning. Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, regulatory guidelines, and ethical standards. Identify and mitigate potential supply chain risks. Stay informed of market trends, new products, and best practices in procurement and supply chain management. Encourage innovative ideas from suppliers to improve service, cost, or process outcomes. Process Improvement and Procurement Governance Assess sourcing, contracting, and purchasing practices for efficiency and consistency. Recommend improvements to processes, policies, tools, and controls. Support implementation of sourcing best practices, including standard templates, evaluation tools, and reporting. Track sourcing results, document savings, and maintain accurate records. Cross - Functional Collaboration Partner with internal team members to understand needs, set priorities, gather requirements, and support planning activities. Communicate procurement strategy, sourcing plans, timelines and policy expectations to stakeholders. Provide guidance on supplier selection, buying channels and contract use. Facilitate discussions that balance business needs with cost, quality, and compliance. Promote a strategic sourcing approach that balances cost, quality, and operational reliability. Inventory and Supply Review Support Assist in reviewing inventory practices and purchasing patterns that contribute to excess stock or inefficiencies. Support efforts to improve controls, documentation, and ordering processes. Reporting and Data Stewardship Assist in preparing dashboards, reports, and updates on procurement activity, contract status, and savings performance. Help maintain data accuracy in procurement technology tools. REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or purchasing management Minimum 5 years progressive experience in accounting. Strong negotiation and contract management skills. Proven ability to develop and execute procurement strategies Excellent negotiation and contract management skills Strong written and verbal communication skills High level of proficiency in data analysis and problem solving Experience with procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting while working on a computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling office equipment. Ability to view computer screens for extended periods. Occasional standing, walking, and reaching within the office environment. Ability to lift and carry objects (up to 15 lbs.), such as files, documents, or office supplies. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone. The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This position will be based at our main office in Fort Washington, PA Travel to vendor sites and other company locations may be required occasionally. Pay:
