Open Until Filled This is a Full-Time 40 Hours Weekly position with the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration's Office of Procurement Management. Join the Office of Procurement Management and play a key role in keeping South Dakota state government running smoothly through smart purchasing. The Office of Procurement Management leads the state's centralized purchasing program, partnering with agencies to deliver fair, transparent, and well managed procurement. The team is known for its professionalism and focus on continuous improvement. As a Purchasing Specialist, you will work closely with agencies across state government, guiding them through the purchasing process from start to finish. You will lead solicitations, manage contracts, and support timely, well informed decisions. Success in this role requires clear communication, sound judgment, attention to detail, and practical problem solving, with opportunities to develop your skills and take on new challenges.
Key responsibilities include:
work with agencies to help them follow state procurement laws and requirements; lead formal solicitations for goods and services; manage contracts and track vendor performance; identify ways to improve processes and solve day to day challenges; interpret and apply procurement policies and procedures; and, build and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, agency staff, and the public.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Knowledge of public procurement practices is preferred. Professional certifications such as CPPB or CPPO are a plus but not required. Additionally, strong attention to detail and clear communication, with the ability to work well with a variety of people across state government. Ideal candidate is willing to learn, ask questions, and adapt to new processes while staying organized and managing multiple priorities. An interest in developing procurement skills and growing in the role is important.
Knowledge of:
• basic business, purchasing, or administrative processes is helpful but not required.
Skill to:
communicate clearly in writing and verbally; stay organized and manage time effectively; solve problems and think critically.
Ability to:
learn and apply policies, procedures, and systems; manage multiple tasks and deadlines; build and maintain positive working relationships and work effectively on a team.
