Under the direction of the Inventory Control Manager, the Purchasing Associate is responsible for the purchasing of materials, equipment, and supplies in the organization, taking into consideration cost, quality and production time constraints. Responsibilities Assess vendor capabilities, develop alternate sources, and evaluate vendor performance. Participate in process improvement efforts and assist in establishing department practices and procedures. Ensure that purchasing documents are properly entered, distributed internally and to vendors, and filed. Prepare purchasing status reports and gather additional information as needed. Follow-up with vendors to ensure on time delivery and communicate any issues to the appropriate personnel. Send forecasts and requests for quotes to vendors; update the ERP system accordingly. Participate in other related processes such as; Engineering Change Notices, Returning Materials to Vendors, Inventory Audits, and Annual Physical Inventory. Establish beneficial and professional relationships with internal customers, vendors and supply chain Support the Inventory Control Manager on an as-needed basis to meet company objectives. Any other duties as assigned by management Requirements
  • Accepts responsibility for own actions
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain management principles including sourcing, purchasing, inventory management, logistics, and pricing strategies.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes such as vendor sourcing and supplier relationship management.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable terms while maintaining positive supplier relationships.
  • Understanding of production planning, merchandising practices, and e-commerce operations is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze data within ERP systems like SAP to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Self-directed, shows initiative toward accomplishment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Requires education generally equivalent to a bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university with coursework in business administration and five years of industrial purchasing experience. Proven experience with ERP system, preferably Epicor / SAP. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and vendors. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
