Pay-per-job (Rates vary based on complexity, distance, and task requirements) Job Description We are seeking a reliable, motivated, and detail-oriented Permit Runner / Expediter to join our team on a per-job basis. This position is ideal for an independent contractor looking for flexible, supplemental income. As a Permit Runner, you will be the vital link between our company and local municipal building departments across South Florida. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the efficient submission, tracking, and retrieval of building permits.
Key Responsibilities Submit Applications:
Transport and submit permit applications, architectural plans, and supporting documentation to various South Florida city and county building departments.
Track & Follow Up:
Routinely check the status of pending permits, address any minor administrative issues on-site, and follow up with municipal clerks or plan reviewers.
Retrieve Permits:
Pick up approved permits, job site cards, and reviewed plans.
Deliver Documents:
Safe and timely delivery of permit packages to our main office, job sites, or clients as requested.
Provide Updates:
Maintain clear and prompt communication with our project managers regarding the status of each job, including immediate notification of any rejections or required corrections.
Requirements & Qualifications Experience:
Prior experience as a permit runner, project coordinator, or working directly with South Florida building departments is highly preferred.
Transportation:
Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid Florida driver's license, and active auto insurance.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with the geographic layout and municipal building departments of Miami-Dade, Broward, and/or Palm Beach counties.
Skills:
Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills. You must be professional and courteous when dealing with city officials.
Technology:
Must own a smartphone with a reliable data plan to send real-time updates, photos of documents, and scan receipts.
Physical Ability:
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (such as heavy rolled blueprints) and spend extended periods driving or standing in line. Compensation Structure This is a pay-per-job position. Pay rates are flat fees determined prior to the assignment and are dependent on: The complexity of the task (e.g., simple drop-off vs. waiting for an over-the-counter review). The distance traveled and the number of stops required. Any required corrections or follow-up visits.
