Job Description

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Proteus, a non-profit organization that assists migratory and seasonal agricultural workers with health care access, services and job training, is currently seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into the future. The CEO is responsible for overall program planning and development and accomplishing program goals as established by the Board of Directors. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Ensures effective coordination and alignment of program activities with public and private agencies and other interested organizations.
  • Develops and implements strategic plans and organizational structure to carry out Board-established goals.
  • Exercises ultimate approval and supervisory authority over programs conducted by Proteus, or assigned to qualified institutions, organizations, or individuals.
  • Determine staffing needs and models, organizational structure, and workforce planning.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs and services and coordinates the preparation and presentation of reports required by funding agencies, governmental bodies, or the Proteus Board.
  • Serves as chief staff representative to the Board of Directors, ensuring transparent communication and alignment on strategy and performance.
  • Acts as primary spokesperson and liaison to outside agencies and community groups, while building and strengthening strategic relationships with community members, leaders, and partners.
  • Serves as chief negotiator for grant funding, including proposal development, renewals, and modification processes.
  • 9 Responsible for grant and resource development, including identifying funding opportunities, cultivating funder relationships, and diversifying revenue streams.
  • Serves as corporate representative and participates in relevant networks and coalitions to advance organizational priorities.
  • Travels frequently on corporate matters as required for program oversight, employee engagement, and strategic relationship development.
  • Ensures organizational compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including oversight of monitoring activities, audits, and compliance-related site visits for federal and other grant-funded programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Qualified candidates should have:
Education :
Sufficient educational background to be able to demonstrate the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Such abilities might normally be demonstrated by a candidate having obtained a BA degree in Business, Public Administration or Social Science. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Relevant years of experience may be substituted for formal education.
Experience:
A minimum of five years of leadership experience in administrative, financial, grant negotiating, or program oversight within employment and training, healthcare, and/or human services organizations. Experience with federally funded programs, regulatory compliance, and grant management is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, program development, and building partnerships with public and private stakeholders is highly desirable.
Specific Knowledge:
Ability to speak fluently in Spanish as well as English is desirable. Must be knowledgeable in the area of government grant management procedures and regulations.
License and Certificates:
Access to reliable transportation, valid Iowa driver's license and minimum car insurance required by state law.
Location:
Position is on-site and based out of Des Moines, Iowa with regular travel to Nebraska and Indiana.
