Turnaround & Restructuring Location:
New York City About the Firm Our client is a leading turnaround and restructuring advisory firm based in New York, specializing in helping companies navigate periods of distress, transition, and accelerated change. The firm provides hands-on leadership, operational stabilization, financial restructuring, liquidity management, and strategic advisory services to middle-market and large companies across sectors. Position Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Managing Director to lead and grow turnaround and restructuring engagements. The ideal candidate brings a deep track record of senior-level restructuring experience, strong execution capabilities, and the ability to independently run complex client situations. Candidates with interim C-suite experience (CEO, CFO, CRO) or those who bring portable business , established referral networks, or a demonstrated desire and capability to originate new engagements will be highly prioritized. Key Responsibilities Engagement Leadership & Execution Lead full-cycle turnaround and restructuring engagements, including financial assessments, operational reviews, liquidity management, and stakeholder negotiations. Direct multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-impact results under tight timeframes. Serve as interim executive (CEO, CFO, CRO) when required, providing hands-on leadership to stabilize operations and drive transformation. Oversee development of 13-week cash flows, integrated financial models, and restructuring plans. Lead presentations and reporting for boards, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders. Strategic Advisory Develop and implement strategic turnaround plans addressing liquidity, operational inefficiencies, cost structure, competitive positioning, and organizational alignment. Guide clients through distressed scenarios including workouts, recapitalizations, bankruptcy proceedings, and refinancing activities. Business Development & Practice Growth Originate new business by leveraging existing relationships and expanding the firm's network across lenders, attorneys, sponsors, and board members. Drive proposal development, pitch meetings, and practice visibility initiatives. Mentor and develop junior talent while contributing to the overall growth strategy of the practice. Qualifications Required Senior-level experience (typically 10-20+ years) in turnaround and restructuring, distressed investing, corporate recovery, or related advisory roles. Proven ability to run engagements independently , manage teams, and deliver successful outcomes in distressed environments. Strong financial and operational acumen, including mastery of restructuring analytics and short-term cash flow forecasting. Demonstrated success working with or within the C-suite. Preferred Interim C-suite experience (CEO, CFO, CRO) with a history of stabilizing organizations in crisis. Existing portable book of business , strong referral relationships, or a clear appetite and capability for origination. Experience guiding companies through Chapter 11 processes, refinancing events, divestitures, and strategic transformations. Strong presence with lenders, law firms, private equity sponsors, and other restructuring ecosystem stakeholders.

$225k - $300k
