This role is responsible for driving operational excellence across all departments, including manufacturing, distribution, inventory, compliance, and production within a fast-paced cannabis organization. The VP of Operations will lead the development and execution of scalable operational systems, continuous improvement initiatives, and cross-functional alignment to support company growth, product quality, and regulatory compliance. This executive will provide both strategic oversight and hands-on leadership while ensuring operational execution aligns with organizational goals, KPIs, and California cannabis regulations. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and execute operational strategies that support company objectives and long-term growth. Oversee day-to-day operations across production, manufacturing, packaging, distribution/logistics, inventory control, and compliance. Partner with executive leadership to establish growth targets, resource planning, and operational improvements. Align operational initiatives with company goals, profitability targets, and scalability plans. Operational Management Drive performance metrics across all operational departments, ensuring goals related to output, quality, cost-efficiency, and delivery timelines are achieved. Ensure manufacturing and distribution processes remain fully compliant with California cannabis regulations and METRC requirements. Manage vendor relationships, procurement processes, and supply chain planning within budget parameters. Oversee production scheduling, facility operations, and capacity utilization to maximize efficiency. Implement systems and processes that improve productivity, quality, and operational consistency. Team Leadership & Development Lead and support senior operational leaders, including: Senior Director of Operations Director of Operations Director of Distribution Senior Warehouse/Production Manager Build and mentor high-performing teams while developing future operational leaders. Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide coaching, performance management, and leadership development across operational departments. Process & Systems Improvement Lead the implementation, optimization, and scaling of enterprise operational systems. Champion Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and product quality. Evaluate operational workflows and recommend scalable solutions that support company growth. Drive operational excellence through process standardization, KPI tracking, and data-driven decision-making. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with all state and local cannabis regulations, labor laws, safety standards, and product handling requirements. Oversee audits, inspections, SOP adherence, and risk mitigation protocols. Maintain workplace safety standards and ensure product integrity across all operations. Partner with Compliance and HR teams to maintain a compliant and safe work environment. Qualifications 8-10+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations management, preferably within a regulated industry such as cannabis, pharmaceuticals, food manufacturing, or consumer packaged goods (CPG). Proven success leading multi-functional teams and scaling operations in high-growth environments. Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain Management, or related field required; MBA preferred. Strong knowledge of California cannabis regulations and industry best practices. Experience with ERP systems, METRC, inventory management, and logistics software. Demonstrated expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, GMP, or other continuous improvement methodologies. Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving, and highly regulated environment. Performance Expectations Achieve operational KPIs related to throughput, quality, cost per unit, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction. Lead cost-saving and process optimization initiatives that improve operational margins. Maintain 100% compliance across all operational departments and facilities. Successfully support organizational growth through scalable systems and operational excellence. Demonstrate strong cross-functional collaboration with Sales, HR, Compliance, Finance, and Executive Leadership teams. Work Environment Combination of office and production/manufacturing floor environments. Regular onsite presence required; occasional travel between facilities or partner sites may be necessary. Ability to work extended hours or weekends during high-volume periods or critical operational deadlines.
