Job Summary and Responsibilities The System Vice President, Orthopedics Service Line - Administrator serves as the senior administrative authority for Orthopedics across CommonSpirit Health. This administrative executive provides strategic leadership and direction for the Service Line, ensuring alignment with system-wide goals for quality, safety, and performance.
In partnership with the System VP, Service Line Physician Leader, this dyad leadership role guides the development and execution of integrated, multidisciplinary care strategies. Together, they champion the adoption of evidence-based clinical standards, drive performance improvement initiatives, and work to reduce patient harm, optimize resource utilization, and eliminate unwarranted variation in care. Their efforts are focused on enhancing clinical outcomes, improving care coordination, and elevating the patient and caregiver experience.
As a key member of the CommonSpirit Health clinical leadership team, the System VP, Service Line Administrator collaborates with executive leaders across the organization to shape and implement system and local strategies. This role plays a critical part in advancing the transformation to a unified clinical enterprise, fostering physician alignment, and achieving goals related to patient experience, employee engagement, and financial performance. Leadership and Engagement Provide administrative leadership to the National Service Line, working with region and market clinical (CMO, CNO, PE), operational and dyad senior leadership on the development of system priorities for clinical performance. Lead the organization in the identification of goals, development of strategies for implementation and adoption to ensure organizational improvements and outcomes are achieved. Partner with service line regional/market dyad leadership and guide implementation where needed.
Engage and inspire physicians, advanced practice providers and clinicians through education, training and consults. Engage physicians, senior leaders and subject matter experts to identify and promulgate best and evidence-based practices in the development and implementation of system initiatives and standards for care. Provide direction, expertise, leadership, education, vision and strategic resources to system ministries. Collaborate closely on all topics with dyad partner System Service Line Physician Leader. Quality and Performance Improvement Oversee the development and implementation of service line-specific quality initiatives, establishing goals and working with system teams. Monitor quality outcomes through the use of balanced scorecards, identifying opportunities for implementation of clinical standards for care delivery across the continuum. Provide data, benchmarks and analysis to improve care and outcomes. Identify, measure and achieve improvement in priorities for service line-specific performance. Collaboration and Support Receive support from and collaborate with key stakeholders (Strategy, Operations, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Innovation, Clinical Research Institute, Pharmacy, Advocacy, Academics, etc.). Collaborate with other national groups to support the development of risk-based payment models for services. Collaborate closely with dyads across other clinical institutes and service line specialties. Care Standardization and Efficiency Standardize service line definition, structure and reporting system-wide. Rationalize services within markets and regions to reduce internal competition, including gap analyses and resource planning. Inform and recommend operational best practices and efficiencies. Develop and provide benchmarked results and descriptive analytics to improve care. Standardize contracting and compensation models. Standardize capital and operating purchasing. Strategic Growth, Planning and Innovation Define and designate Centers of Excellence across the system to meaningfully align strategic clinical priorities. Act as a key partner with strategy for driving growth, long-range strategic planning and evaluating joint venture partners. Support and lead service line assessment of new technologies and innovative approaches to care delivery, ensuring patient access to leading-edge treatments. Bring together all modalities of treatment and care strategies for patients to create an integrated and innovative roadmap for the system. Participate in the care continuum to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care delivery. Expand service line research capabilities and access to leading clinical trials, enhancing care to the community. Provide leadership insights on service line-specific precision medicine strategies and approaches. Partner with acute telehealth services to ensure service line alignment. Operational Oversight and Financial Management Oversee and approve key hires, ideally ensuring clinical service line leaders are employed by the Medical Group. Lead the organization in the identification of goals, development of strategies for implementation and adoption to ensure organizational improvements and outcomes are achieved. Engage physicians, key senior leaders and subject matter experts in the development and implementation of service line-specific system initiatives and evidence-based care. Partner with finance, supply chain and pharmacy leadership to reduce device and pharmaceutical costs and provide guidance on equipment and supply selection.
