Chief Operating Officer Overview:
The mission of is to empower students to transform the world. Students at Truth will graduate ready for success in college, career, and life. Sojourner Truth serves a diverse population of 6th-12th grade students in Washington, DC.
Position:
Sojourner Truth PCS is seeking a motivated, innovative, and solutions-oriented leader ready to help us further realize our vision for the nation's premier public urban adolescent Montessori program. Applicants should have senior public charter school operations experience, be inspired by and aligned to Truth's mission, and be able to provide high level leadership experience to help continue to grow the systems and processes within the organization.. Students need to be prepared for life , not just for school. Each student's identity, voice, perspectives, and choices matter.
Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership and Strategy Oversee finance, human resources, student recruitment and enrollment, technology, facilities, development, communication, risk management, and compliance to ensure high quality execution and alignment with organizational goals. Supervise all organization-wide operations staff. Develop and implement systems, policies, and procedures to ensure operational excellence across the organization. Facilities and Risk Management Oversee, with the Director of Operations and Finance, building maintenance and management, middle school transportation, food service, front desk, and key systems including: annual safety planning, mass notification system, and visitor management. Collaborate with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and insurance providers to proactively mitigate and respond to emergent risks. Student Recruitment and Enrollment In collaboration with the Director of Enrollment, work to ensure enrollment goals for the upcoming school year are met by the end of July. Ensure that marketing, community outreach, and retention strategies showcase the strengths of our unique Montessori secondary school. Oversee family engagement strategies to ensure a welcoming and accessible school experience for all families. Student Information and Technology In collaboration with the Data Manager, ensure all student records successfully appear in PowerSchool and all down-stream school systems. Ensure all records protocols are clearly communicated and adhered to in collaboration with the Registrar. Working with the Operations Manager, ensure all student technology is functional for daily use as well as for State/standardized testing. Event and Program Management In collaboration with the Events and Project Manager, ensure that all school-wide events are well-planned, incorporating input and execution from all related staff. Develop accountability systems to ensure all staff members have an opportunity to support the various events throughout the school year. Communication Develop an annual communication plan for the organization in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer including instructional goals, priorities, and cycle themes. Ensure all forms of communication (i.e newsletters, social media, classroom weekly updates) are cohesive, and information regarding upcoming events is provided with sufficient time for internal and external planning. Work collaboratively with staff and student groups to generate scheduled information and content that can be shared via various communication channels. Development and Fundraising Setup, update, and manage the donor CRM database to track contributions and outreach. Cultivate, track, and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and local community leaders. In conjunction with the finance team, research, write, and submit federal, state, and private grant applications. In collaboration with the Executive Director, secure local corporate sponsorships, in-kind donations, and civic partnerships to offset operational costs. Student Attendance Working collaboratively with the Student Attendance Specialist, ensure regular cross-department meetings take place developing systems and strategies to ensure school-wide daily attendance of above 90%. Ensure accurate student attendance is reported to the OSSE.
Qualifications:
Experience in leading a high-functioning school operations team in a fast-paced, start-up or entrepreneurial environment with at least five years of experience; Entrepreneurial, positive problem solve with the ability to see opportunity in challenges and engage others in an inclusive process; Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures related to purchasing, operations, safety, computer networking programs, food service, budgeting and accounting, purchasing and inventory control systems; Preparation of financial and statistical documents and reports; Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create and deliver compelling presentations to diverse groups of stakeholders; Clear judgment and a mature interpersonal style; Commitment to the potential of all youth to succeed in rigorous educational settings; Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; ideally with course work in Business Administration, Organizational Management, or a related discipline. Hearing and Speaking (90-100%) The ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and families is essential. This requires hearing, speaking, and understanding verbal communications. Vision (90-100%) Visual acuity is needed for reviewing documents, reading from a computer screen, and observing students in classroom settings. Mobility (50-70%) Occasionally, the role may require moving between classrooms or other areas of the school.
Pay:
$90,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
