  • Full-time Chief Operating Officer LOCO Credit Union Alamogordo, New Mexico Position Summary LOCO Credit Union seeks a strategic and execution-focused Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and optimize the credit union's day-to-day operations in alignment with strategic priorities, established policies, and sound governance.
Working closely with the CEO, the COO is responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring efficient and compliant processes, and supporting the credit union's overall financial performance and member experience. This role requires strong technical expertise in financial services operations, risk management, and compliance, combined with the ability to lead teams, implement strategy, and continuously improve systems and processes. Key Responsibilities Oversee and manage daily operations across all functional areas, including lending, deposit operations, member services, compliance, and support functions. Partner with the CEO to execute the credit union's strategic plan and operational priorities. Lead and manage, individually and through appropriate subordinates, key operational departments including accounting, finance, human resources, lending, operations, compliance, risk management, and security. Drive operational efficiency through process improvement, system optimization, and performance management. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance monitoring in collaboration with the CEO. Ensure regulatory compliance, accurate reporting, and readiness for examinations, including effective response to regulatory findings. Direct loan operations, including underwriting standards, portfolio performance, delinquency management, and credit risk monitoring. Support responsible growth initiatives aligned with the credit union's risk tolerance and mission. Develop, mentor, and lead staff to foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence. Implement policies and procedures that strengthen internal controls, operational consistency, and member experience. Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment, communication, and execution of organizational goals.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field. Minimum 3 years of progressive leadership experience in financial services, preferably within a credit union. Demonstrated expertise in operations management, financial performance, compliance, and risk oversight. Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Preferred:
Prior leadership experience within a small to mid-sized credit union. Professional certifications (e.g., CCUE, CUDE, CPA, or similar). About LOCO Credit Union LOCO Credit Union was organized in January 1953 by a small group of educators who sought to create a financial institution dedicated to serving school employees. The credit union originally represented Lincoln and Otero Counties — from which the name L.O.C.O. was derived — and steadily expanded to serve ten counties across New Mexico. In 2007, LOCO Credit Union became a community-chartered credit union, opening membership to all residents of Otero County while continuing to serve school employees, board members, and their families across its broader footprint.
