About the Role The Vice President of Administration & Operations is a senior and key leader responsible for institution‑wide coordination, operational effectiveness, and strategic initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in collaborative environments, enjoys solving complex organizational challenges, and brings the judgment and creativity needed to guide a mission‑driven institution. Duties Executive Leadership & Strategy Assist the President in advancing the NJC's mission and strategic vision. Lead major initiatives and ensure alignment across departments. Contribute to strategic planning, organizational development, and program goals. Foster a collaborative, service‑oriented institutional culture. Operations & Organizational Stewardship Oversee administrative operations, institutional processes, and organizational systems. Strengthen internal communication and streamline workflows across teams. Support coordinated responses to crises or disruptions. Ensure physical and digital environments support excellence in judicial education. Governance & Board Engagement Serve as Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Prepare agendas, board packets, and minutes; support governance processes. Maintain strong relationships with trustees while upholding professionalism and confidentiality. External Relations & Partnerships Represent the NJC to state judicial educators, bar associations, tribal justice systems, universities, and national organizations. Build partnerships that strengthen judicial education and expand NJC's reach. Identify opportunities for collaborative programming and mission‑aligned initiatives. Support outreach, visibility, and engagement efforts in coordination with Communications and Development. Executive Communications Assist the President with high‑level communication and correspondence. Draft and edit executive‑level materials that reflect NJC's mission and voice. Handle sensitive matters with diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgment. Experience Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degrees—JD, Master's, PhD, EdD, MPA, MBA, or others—preferred in any field. Leadership & Experience Experience in a leadership or high‑responsibility role in any sector: public, nonprofit, academic, corporate, tribal, military, or government. Exposure to judicial systems, higher education, public service, or mission‑driven work is helpful but not required. Experience in academic settings—adjunct teaching, training, or program development—is a plus. Ability to guide cross‑functional teams and manage institution‑wide priorities. Skills & Attributes Strong relationship‑building skills with judges, tribal leaders, educators, board members, and partners. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. High emotional intelligence and cultural competence. Ability to navigate complex environments with steadiness and creativity. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving capabilities.
