Executive Director Role - Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation The Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation, a leading private, non-operating foundation based in Port Washington, New York, seeks a visionary and accomplished Executive Director to provide strategic, operational, financial, and external leadership aligned with the Foundation's long-term mission and impact. At a Glance Full-time, exempt position Fully in-person (Port Washington, NY) Master's degree required, J.D. or advanced degree preferred Reports to the Chief Operating Officer & Board of Directors This role is ideal for an experienced and accomplished individual in the philanthropic/nonprofit field seeking an opportunity to maximize their value at a growing and increasingly impactful organization. The Executive Director will oversee grantmaking, major initiatives, partnerships, and day-to-day operations while working closely with the Board of Directors to maximize philanthropic impact, maintain strong governance, and elevate the Foundation's visibility within the community. Key Responsibilities Governance & Strategy Partner with Foundation staff and Board of Directors to define and execute strategic priorities Ensure best-in-class governance, compliance, and fiduciary oversight Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and Foundation operations, ensuring transparency and accountability Grantmaking & Program Oversight Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of grantmaking strategies and programs Evaluate outcomes/measurable community impact & ensure alignment with mission priorities Develop and manage partnerships across healthcare, community development, & nonprofit sectors, expanding support for both large institutional partners & smaller local organizations Financial Stewardship Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning Collaborate with investment advisors on asset management Ensure disciplined allocation of resources and adherence to financial policies and best practices Operations & Organizational Leadership Direct day-to-day operations and staff management Oversee execution of major initiatives and capital projects Implement systems to drive efficiency and accountability External Relations Serve as the Foundation's primary spokesperson and public representative Build and maintain relationships with government, nonprofit, and civic stakeholders Lead strategic visibility initiatives and public-facing partnerships Experience & Qualifications Master's degree required; J.D. or advanced degree preferred Significant executive leadership experience in philanthropy, nonprofit, or related sectors Demonstrated success in leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and public-private partnerships Core Competencies Strategic leadership & vision Strong financial acumen and operational management expertise Exceptional communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks Integrity, accountability, & mission alignment Compensation & Comprehensive Benefits Package Commensurate with experience and qualifications 403(b) retirement plan with generous employer matching contributions Fully employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage Generous paid vacation and personal leave, paid holidays, and flexible scheduling where appropriate to role demands
