Chief Operating Officer (COO) Job Overview We are seeking a highly strategic, results-oriented, and transformational Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the operational infrastructure, execution, and organizational performance of our growing law firm. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the COO will work closely with the Managing Partners and firm leadership to translate vision into execution, drive accountability across the organization, and ensure operational excellence throughout all offices and departments. The COO will oversee the firm's day-to-day operations while developing and implementing scalable systems, processes, and performance frameworks that support sustainable growth, profitability, client service excellence, and organizational alignment. This executive leader will serve as the driving force behind operational consistency, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic initiative execution across the firm. This role is ideal for a proactive, data-driven leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, excels at building high-performing teams, and possesses the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership. Responsibilities Executive Leadership & Strategic Planning Partner with Managing Partners and executive leadership to develop and execute the firm's strategic vision, goals, and growth initiatives. Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing operational insight and recommendations to support firm-wide decision-making. Lead strategic planning efforts and ensure organizational priorities are translated into measurable action plans. Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), operational dashboards, and reporting systems to drive accountability and performance. Operational Leadership Oversee all operational functions of the firm, including legal operations, administration, intake, human resources, technology, facilities, and client service initiatives. Design, implement, and optimize firm-wide systems, workflows, and processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability. Ensure operational alignment across multiple offices, practice groups, and departments. Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions that improve productivity, profitability, and client outcomes. Organizational Performance & Accountability Establish a culture of accountability, execution, and continuous improvement throughout the organization. Lead firm-wide performance management initiatives, ensuring departments and leaders are aligned with strategic objectives. Oversee project management and cross-functional initiatives to ensure timely completion and measurable results. Develop organizational structures, communication systems, and operational standards that support firm growth and excellence. Financial & Business Operations Collaborate with leadership and finance teams on budgeting, forecasting, resource allocation, and operational planning. Monitor operational performance metrics and financial indicators to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Identify opportunities for cost savings, resource optimization, and process improvements while maintaining exceptional client service. Talent, Culture & Leadership Development Partner with HR and firm leadership to recruit, develop, and retain top talent. Oversee onboarding, training, mentoring, and professional development programs for attorneys and staff. Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement. Coach department leaders and managers to strengthen leadership capabilities and operational effectiveness. Technology & Innovation Champion the adoption and optimization of technology platforms that improve operational performance and client experience. Evaluate and implement systems that support workflow automation, reporting, knowledge management, and firm scalability. Ensure technology investments align with strategic objectives and operational needs. Qualifications 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations, business management, law firm administration, or executive leadership roles. Demonstrated success leading multi-department organizations, operational transformations, and growth initiatives. Strong background in strategic planning, organizational development, process improvement, and performance management. Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive accountability across all levels of an organization. Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing budgets, forecasting, and operational performance metrics. Experience implementing and managing operational systems, project management frameworks, and performance dashboards. Highly organized, analytical, and execution-focused with the ability to manage competing priorities. Experience in a law firm, legal services organization, or professional services environment strongly preferred. Bachelor's degree required; MBA, MPA, JD, or other advanced degree preferred. Pay:
