Company Description The 1199C Pension Fund for Hospital & Health Care Employees is a multiemployer pension fund that was established pursuant to collective bargaining agreements between signatory companies and the 1199C union in Philadelphia. We provide benefits to approximately 5,000 retired members with over $347 million in assets. Our team is committed to fostering financial well-being for healthcare workers throughout their careers and beyond. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Philadelphia, PA. The Pension Manager leads and manages all aspects of a defined benefit pension plan and ensures the delivery of timely and high-quality services to plan participants. The role requires a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who can drive initiatives to support the overall business. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter who is willing to take ownership of the position and is capable to continue the work with minimal direction. They possess exceptional organizational and analytical skills, extensive knowledge of defined benefit pension plans or similar retirement benefits, and a proven track record of leadership. The Pension Manager will lead the Pension Department with a staff of two, overseeing the day-to-day administrative operations and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The Pension Manager will develop and implement policies, programs, and standards to maintain the highest level of service for our members. This role requires a leader who can set goals, motivate staff, and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders: the Executive Directors, Trustees, participants, employers, union and professional advisors
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-on administration of the DB Pension Fund Department, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of pension benefits while maintaining compliance with ERISA, DOL, IRC, PPA, IRS
regulations, etc. Proven leadership abilities with a track record of effectively managing and developing a high-performing team and driving operational improvements. Establish, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators to identify areas for improvement and drive operational excellence and accountability. Oversee staff development and training to ensure knowledge of the Pension Fund rules and foster professional growth. Communicate effectively by ensuring all plan policies are communicated effectively and consistently to members, staff, employers and other stakeholders. Determine plan beneficiaries' entitlements under the pension plan Aid with any related work or special projects Consult with legal counsel and external stakeholders on compliance matters and stay informed of all plan provisions for the Pension Fund. Assist the Executive Directors in setting and achieving short & long-term strategic goals. Develop and implement departmental initiatives and budgets to align with fund objectives Work with Pension programmers to ensure the maintenance, updating, end of year reporting, testing of systems, programs and reports. Support the Pension department's recordkeeping, reporting and participant service needs. Be able to create new or modify existing reports. Prepare and/or review and understand the annual pension statements Be involved in the entire Pension process to transition a member to a retiree. Prepare members' estimates Daily supervision, oversite, and monitoring of day-to-day performance operations. Qualifications:
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in defined benefit operations or other related senior level retirement plan administration, with at least seven (7) years in a leadership role. Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements is preferred. Proficiency in financial analysis, budget management, and reporting Attention to detail and strong organizational skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage data to drive decision making. Strong communication skills, both written and oral with a customer service focus and ability to work well with all levels of the organization. Able to work under deadlines and multitask several projects simultaneously Commitment to superior member satisfaction Proficiency in pension administration software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times. Exceptional interpersonal skills, judgment, and work ethic. What We Offer:
In addition to a salary of $90,000 - $105,000 commensurate with experience, the Pension Fund offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes fully paid health plan coverage, life insurance, a defined benefit plan, tuition reimbursement, short term disability, and a generous paid time off policy.
