Market Director Olympia Farmers Market Application Deadline:
June 15, 2026 The Olympia Farmers Market—one of the Pacific Northwest's most iconic and longest‑running public markets—is seeking a skilled, community‑minded Market Director to lead Market operations, support vendor success, and steward the Market's continued growth. This position is central to the daily functioning and long‑term health of the Market. As stated in the job description, "The Market Director is ultimately responsible for all aspects regarding operations of the Olympia Farmers Market" and "acts as site manager and works towards the organizational growth of the Olympia Farmers Market." Position Overview The Market Director oversees all Market operations, staff, vendor relations, policy enforcement, and administrative functions. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to balance day‑to‑day management with long‑term strategic planning. Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Staff Leadership & Team Management Supervise all Market employees and foster a positive, unified work environment. Oversee hiring, termination, and recommendations for salary adjustments. Hold weekly management meetings and ensure staff are trained and supported. Maintain daily vendor relations. Operations Management Maintain working knowledge of the Market's Green Book and ensure compliance. Manage City and Port contracts. Create seasonal stall maps and coordinate weekly roll call. Oversee vendor attendance records and site inspections. Policy Enforcement Enforce all Market policies and bylaws. Ensure vendors submit required licenses and permits. Handle vendor disputes and create incident reports. Uphold safety standards and respond to emergencies. Market Growth & Strategic Development Manage Strategic Plan-based projects. Support vendor recruitment and grow weekday attendance. Lead the Marketing Plan of Record in collaboration with staff and contractors Administrative & Clerical Duties Prepare Board agendas with the Board President. Coordinate Board meetings and provide regular operational updates. Manage vendor applications and maintain organizational records. Respond promptly to communications and maintain organized filing systems. Supervision The Market Director is hired by and reports directly to the Board of Directors, answering specifically to the Board President. As stated in the job description, "The Market Director shall have an annual review conducted by the Board of Directors… based upon the previous season's performance." Qualifications Ideal candidates will bring: Experience in market management, nonprofit administration, small business support, agriculture, food systems, or related fields. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to manage staff, budgets, and complex operations. Excellent communication and conflict‑resolution skills. Ability to work Market hours, including weekends. Compensation Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Details will be provided during the interview process.
