About the Mohair Council of America The Mohair Council of America (MCA) promotes American mohair at tradeshows, negotiates partnerships overseas, and advocates for the industry from all perspectives. We are committed to the long-term success of America's mohair industry, promoting increased sales, recruitment, research, and the best practices for Angora goat care. Job Summary The Mohair Council of America (MCA) desires to retain the services of an experienced independent consultant to assist with locating international fiber processors, manufacturers, and end users on behalf of MCA, while also supporting grant administration and compliance efforts. Key Responsibilities The Consultant represents and warrants that it has the necessary experience and expertise to perform the services outlined herein for MCA with the highest degree of skill.
Responsibilities include:
Remain in direct and regular contact with present MCA staff, coordinating with MCA on all international contacts made on its behalf. Utilize past experience to identify opportunities and build relationships with overseas organizations and individuals that would help create new markets for U.S. mohair and continue to build on established relationships. Provide guidance and support regarding USDA grant programs, particularly the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Market Access Program (MAP). When necessary, communicate with MCA officers, MCA staff, and Millennium Marketing to ensure adherence to the requirements and regulations of various programs. Make themselves available during any audit performed by these agencies. Ensure all FAS contracts and subcontracts include the required administrative requirements, cost principles, and general provisions language in compliance with applicableUSDA/FAS
regulations. Provide a written report monthly detailing activities, progress, items of interest, and follow-up needed in the areas worked on during that month. Travel up to 30% of the time (approximately 10% domestically and 20% internationally). Qualifications Bachelor's degree in International Business, Agriculture, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree a plus. Minimum 5 years of experience in international trade, agricultural marketing, or a related field — experience in the textile, fiber, or livestock industry strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience working with USDA grant programs, particularly the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) Market Access Program (MAP). Familiarity with federal contract compliance requirements, including administrative requirements, cost principles, and general provisions. Established network of international contacts in textile manufacturing, fiber processing, or related industries is a strong plus. Experience with QuickBooks and bookkeeping. Manage routine financial tasks, including paying bills, depositing checks, and drafting and sending invoices as applicable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional reports and deliver presentations. Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal oversight. Fluency in a second language relevant to key mohair markets is a plus. Compensation This is an independent contractor position with a monthly retainer of $2,000. International travel will be billed at a rate of $475 per day (FAS reimbursable). Domestic travel is included in the monthly retainer fee. Benefits As this is an independent contractor position, traditional employee benefits are not provided.
